Arizona @ Colorado preview
Pepsi Center
Last Meeting ( Mar 29, 2019 ) Arizona 2, Colorado 3
The Colorado Avalanche appear poised to join the NHL's elite, but to do so they'll need scoring depth from everyone not named Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen. Joonas Donskoi, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Andre Burakovsky - all in their first season with Colorado - have combined for five goals and the Avalanche hope the secondary production continues as they host the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday.
Burakovsky scored the game-winner in Thursday's come-from-behind 4-2 victory over reigning Eastern Conference champion Boston, giving Colorado three wins in three contests this season. "That's the best game we've seen out of him," Avalanche coach Jared Bednar told reporters about Burakovsky, who scored 62 goals in five seasons with Washington. "He was on pucks, he was making some plays, he was using his speed and driving by guys in foot races." Arizona is coming off its first victory of the season with a 4-1 triumph over Vegas on Thursday that featured a pair of goals by Conor Garland and 37 saves from Darcy Kuemper. "We knew we weren't scoring," Garland told reporters about his club, which scored once in its first two games. " ... We just wanted to play the same way we always do. And if they're going in, that makes us a dangerous hockey team."

ABOUT THE COYOTES (1-2-0): Rookie center Barrett Hayton registered an assist Thursday in his NHL debut, playing 11 minutes, 24 seconds. "It was amazing, just getting a feel for the game was great, getting a feel for the speed," the fifth overall pick in the 2018 draft told reporters about his first NHL game. "Overall, I thought it was a good game. It was great to get a little chemistry going." Kuemper (1-2-0, 1.35 goals-against average, .957 save percentage this season) is 3-1-2, 2.09, .917 in seven career games (six starts) against the Avalanche.
ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (3-0-0): Colorado's top line of MacKinnon, Landeskog and Rantanen, which was responsible for 40 percent of the club's goals and nearly 38 percent of its points in 2018-19, has combined for six goals and 14 points this season. Defenseman Cale Makar has an assist in each of his first three regular-season games - all on the power play. Philipp Grubauer (3-0, 2.34, .931) has settled well into his new role as a No. 1 goaltender and is 2-1-1, 2.74, .914 in six career games (five starts) versus Arizona.
