The Los Angeles Kings used a late surge to emerge victorious in their roller coaster of a home opener on Saturday. They hope to build a lead and preserve it when they continue their five-game homestand Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Los Angeles carried a three-goal lead over Nashville into the third period but squandered it before scoring three times in the final minute to post a 7-4 victory. Alex Iafallo snapped a 4-4 tie with 59 seconds remaining while Dustin Brown registered a goal and two assists for the Kings, who were outshot 20-9 in the third period after holding a 29-12 advantage after 40 minutes. Vegas avoided a third consecutive setback on Saturday, scoring five unanswered goals to erase a deficit and record a 6-2 home triumph over Calgary. William Carrier tallied midway through the second period to snap a tie and added an assist for his first career multi-point effort for the Golden Knights, who have outscored their opponents 15-4 in their victories.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (3-2-0): Mark Stone also notched a goal and an assist in Saturday's win, giving him four two-point performances in five games this season. The 27-year-old right wing leads the team with eight points and needs one assist to reach 200 for his career. Cody Eakin made his season debut Saturday after beginning the season on injured reserve with an upper-body injury, recording one shot and a plus-1 rating in 13 minutes, 38 seconds of ice time.
ABOUT THE KINGS (2-2-0): Captain Anze Kopitar recorded a goal and an assist on Saturday, giving him points in each of his first four games this campaign. The 32-year-old Slovenian has collected three tallies and six assists over his last five contests dating back to last season's finale and is five points shy of 900 for his career. Defenseman Drew Doughty has scored a team-leading three goals in four games after registering only eight in 82 contests last campaign.

1. Golden Knights LW Tomas Nosek shares the team lead with three goals in five games after scoring just eight in 68 contests last season.
2. Los Angeles C Jeff Carter has recorded one goal in his last 12 games dating back to last season, with the tally coming against Vegas in the 2018-19 finale.
