Last Meeting ( Nov 5, 2019 ) Carolina 1, Philadelphia 4

The Carolina Hurricanes have been one of the streakier teams in the NHL, with the team riding a roller coaster of emotions after bunching together runs of both wins and losses this season. The Hurricanes aim to counter a four-game skid by matching a season high with their fifth straight victory on Thursday when they host the Philadelphia Flyers, who have lost four in a row (0-2-2).

Andrei Svechnikov scored in his third consecutive contest and extended his point streak to five games (four goals, four assists) by scoring for the club high-tying 10th time on Tuesday in Carolina's 4-2 victory over Chicago. "He's getting better and better every night. That's what's amazing to watch. He's just getting so confident out there to make plays," coach Rod Brind'Amour said of the 19-year-old forward. "He wants to be a superstar, I think, and he's heading in the right direction." While both Svechnikov and the Hurricanes are trending up, the Flyers are experiencing a sharp downward turn on the heels of a four-game winning streak and seven-game run of recording at least a point. "We tried everything we could to come back. We played a real solid third period, had some real good looks. ... Unfortunately, we had dug ourselves a hole and we couldn't come back," Philadelphia coach Alain Vigneault said after Tuesday's 5-2 setback versus Florida.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Philadelphia, FS Carolinas

ABOUT THE FLYERS (10-7-4): Morgan Frost provided one of Philadelphia's rare highlights on Tuesday by lifting a shot over the shoulder of two-time Vezina Trophy recipient Sergei Bobrovsky to become the first Flyer to score a goal in his NHL debut since Jason Akeson on April 27, 2013. "I think after the first couple of shifts, kind of got comfortable," the 20-year-old Frost said of how quickly he adjusted to NHL life after being recalled from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League. "It makes it a lot easier when you're playing with (Claude Giroux) and (Travis Konecny). After the first couple of shifts, I felt pretty good." Giroux, who scored and set up a goal in Philadelphia's 4-1 win over Carolina on Nov. 5, has just one point in his last six games, however.

ABOUT THE HURRICANES (13-7-1): Defenseman Dougie Hamilton gave Carolina a scare after blocking the shot of former teammate Calvin de Haan in the first period before returning to set up Nino Niederreiter's goal later in the second. The 26-year-old Hamilton, who shares the team lead in both assists (14) and points (23), is riding a six-game point streak (three goals, four assists). Niederreiter also set up a tally from rookie Martin Necas, who has scored two goals and three assists on his four-game point streak.

OVERTIME

1. Philadelphia has enjoyed fast starts this season by scoring the first goal in 14 of 21 games (9-4-1).

2. Carolina LW Teuvo Teravainen has recorded at least one point in eight of his last 10 contests (three goals, seven assists).

3. Flyers C Sean Couturier, who will skate in his 600th NHL game on Thursday, scored in the previous encounter with the Hurricanes.

PREDICTION: Hurricanes 3, Flyers 2
