Captain Connor McDavid recorded his third straight three-point performance in his last outing to become the first Edmonton Oilers player to accomplish the feat since Hall of Famer Mark Messier in January 1990. McDavid looks to continue his torrid stretch on Thursday when the Oilers visit the Los Angeles Kings.

McDavid scored a goal and set up two others in Tuesday's 5-2 victory as Edmonton improved to 4-1-1 in its last six contests and snapped San Jose's six-game winning streak. The 22-year-old McDavid is riding high with an eight-game point streak (nine goals, 11 assists) entering his second contest of the season versus Los Angeles, against which he scored a goal and set up three others in the Oilers' 6-5 win on Oct. 5. While Edmonton rests atop the Pacific Division, Los Angeles resides at the bottom despite winning three of four overall and four straight at Staples Center. Captain Anze Kopitar saw his six-game point streak (three goals, six assists) come to a halt on Monday in the Kings' 3-0 setback at Arizona.

ABOUT THE OILERS (14-6-3): Like McDavid, Leon Draisaitl extended his point streak on Tuesday as the 24-year-old German has recorded 10 goals and 18 assists in a sizzling 13-game stretch. "Obviously our top two guys have been really good, but if you look at the rest of our game, our goals against is good, our (penalty-kill has) been good, our goaltending's been good, and a lot of little factors that are less heralded but have actually gone alright for us," coach Dave Tippett said. Draisatil set up a pair of goals in the first meeting with the Kings, boosting his point total to 18 (six goals, 12 assists) in 20 career encounters.

ABOUT THE KINGS (8-12-1): Coach Todd McLellan credited his team's compete-level against the Coyotes, but once again a sputtering offense was unable to convert as Los Angeles was on the wrong end of its third shutout of the season. "We didn't go away, which can be a little bit of a moral victory for us," McLellan said, per to the Los Angeles Times. "But we can't rely on those at this point. We've got to show up and be ready to play from period one on and not put ourselves in that situation." Jonathan Quick has turned aside 74 of 80 shots during his three-game winning streak heading into a tilt versus Edmonton, against which he fell to 22-8-5 with in his career after getting gouged for six goals on 31 shots in the previous encounter.

OVERTIME

1. Los Angeles will honor C Jeff Carter for competing in 1,000 NHL games prior to Thursday's contest against Edmonton.

2. McDavid is the first member of the Oilers to record 20-plus points in both October and November in a single season since Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky in 1987-88.

3. The Kings activated forward Gabriel Vilardi on Wednesday and assigned the former first-round pick to Ontario of the American Hockey League.
