Calgary @ Pittsburgh preview

PPG Paints Arena

Last Meeting ( Feb 16, 2019 ) Calgary 5, Pittsburgh 4

The Calgary Flames answered three shutout losses in a four-game stretch and ended a six-game winless skid (0-5-1) with a shootout victory in their last contest. The Flames look to complete a two-game sweep of the NHL's Keystone State representatives during their four-game trek on Monday when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Matthew Tkachuk put a halt to Calgary's slide on Saturday after scoring the lone goal of the shootout in a 3-2 victory over Philadelphia. "(The Flames') previous win) feels like a long time ago. We're all excited. Let's keep it moving into Pittsburgh." said defenseman Rasmus Andersson, who set up the tying goal with 1:23 remaining in the third period. While Calgary recorded just its fifth road win in 15 games this season (5-9-1), Pittsburgh improved to 8-3-2 at home with a 4-1 victory over New Jersey on Friday. Jake Guentzel tallied to extend his career-best four-game goal-scoring streak at home and carries an overall four-game point streak (three goals, three assists) into Monday's tilt.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (11-12-3): Defenseman T.J. Brodie rejoined the club in Philadelphia and skated with his teammates on the ice on Sunday, marking the first time has done so since collapsing during practice on Nov. 14. "It's good to be back with the guys, and to get back out there and get a practice in," said the 29-year-old, who reportedly is a game-time decision for Monday's contest. Elias Lindholm scored on Saturday, giving him seven of his club-leading 11 goals on the road this season.

ABOUT THE PENGUINS (12-7-4): Pittsburgh's top line has kept rolling despite the absence of injured superstar captain Sidney Crosby, as Guentzel, Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust have combined for eight goals and 11 assists in the last five games. "They're three good players," Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan told reporters. "(Rust) brings a little bit of a different dimension with his speed than the other two guys. The other two guys have elite hockey sense. There's some chemistry there." Malkin, in fact, has 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in 10 contests since returning from an 11-game absence due to a lower-body injury.

OVERTIME

1. Pittsburgh D Kris Letang participated in practice on Sunday and is a game-time decision to face Calgary, Sullivan told reporters.

2. Flames LW Johnny Gaudreau has just two assists and a minus-11 rating during the last seven contests.

3. The Penguins have allowed three power-play goals in their last two games after going a franchise record-tying 10 in a row without permitting one.

PREDICTION: Penguins 4, Flames 2
