New York @ Los Angeles preview

Last Meeting ( Feb 2, 2019 ) Los Angeles 2, NY Islanders 4
The New York Islanders have not enjoyed the first two legs of their trek through California, dropping an overtime decision over the weekend before seeing their franchise-record 17-game point streak (15-0-2) come to a halt in their next contest. The Islanders aim to get back on track Wednesday when they visit the Los Angeles Kings.
New York sustained its first regulation loss since a 5-2 setback at Carolina on Oct. 11 with a 3-0 defeat to Anaheim on Monday, marking the first time it has been shut out this season. "It'll be a lesson for us," Islanders forward Brock Nelson said after his team failed to record a shot in the final 13:54 of the contest. "It wasn't our best effort on the road against a good team in a tough building. We'll have to respond on Wednesday and try to start another streak." Los Angeles captain Anze Kopitar has pieced together a nice streak by scoring a goal in each of the first three contests of a four-game homestand. The 32-year-old Slovene, who leads the team in goals (10), assists (16) and points (26), scored and set up a goal in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to San Jose and did the same in a 4-2 setback to the Islanders on Feb. 2.

ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (16-4-2): Anthony Beauvillier answered four consecutive multi-point performances by hitting the post on a power-play chance for the second time in as many games Monday. The 22-year-old drew iron during a first period in which New York outshot Anaheim by a 16-5 margin before the Ducks rebounded to put an end to the Islanders' franchise streak. "We felt like we came (at them) hard in the first. They came out hard in the second," Beauvillier said. "We didn't really maintain that compete level we had in the first. Having points for such a long time, this one kind of stinks."
ABOUT THE KINGS (9-13-2): Los Angeles surrendered the game's first goal for the 12th time this season on Monday, and the end result was a familiar one for coach Todd McLellan. "I'm really excited about the guys coming back, but I'm disappointed that the fact exists that we let ourselves get to that situation," McLellan said after seeing his team drop to 1-11-0 in those contests. Adrian Kempe started the Kings' comeback from a 3-0 deficit by scoring a goal late in the second period and assisting on Kopitar's goal with 7:08 remaining in regulation, boosting the 23-year-old Swede's point total to three in his last two games after mustering six in his previous 21.
