New York @ New Jersey preview

Last Meeting ( Oct 17, 2019 ) NY Rangers 2, New Jersey 5
The New York Rangers had a golden opportunity to extend their season-high winning streak to four games, but they were unable to hold back a challenge from one of the best teams in hockey. The Rangers will look to rebound from a 3-2 overtime loss at Boston on Friday and extend their point streak to five at the New Jersey Devils on Saturday afternoon.
New York felt little solace in grabbing a point on the road against the NHL co-leading Bruins after failing to protect a two-goal lead. "Not right now," coach David Quinn said after his team dropped to 9-4-2 since absorbing a 7-4 beating from Boston on Oct. 27. "Maybe if you looked at the schedule and said you’re going to come out of Boston with a point, you’re going to feel good about it. But we felt like we (gave) away a point." The Devils, coming off a 6-4 victory in Montreal on Thursday, ended a season-opening six-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Rangers on Oct. 17. That was the first meeting between New Jersey's Jack Hughes and New York's Kaapo Kakko, the top two picks in this year's draft, but Hughes' availability is in question for Saturday.
TV: 1 p.m. ET, NHL Network, MSG, MSG-Plus
ABOUT THE RANGERS (12-9-3): Artemi Panarin established a franchise record in Friday's loss, collecting an assist to become the first New York player to amass at least 23 points in the month of November. In his first season with the Rangers after signing as a free agent in the offseason, Panarin has notched at least one point in 16 of the last 17 games and has multiple points in nine of the last 12 contests. Panarin was held off the scoresheet last month at New Jersey but has 12 points in his last eight against the Devils.
ABOUT THE DEVILS (9-11-4): Hughes, who collected his first NHL point in the first meeting with New York, appeared in pain after blocking a shot in Montreal and was being evaluated by the medical staff Friday. Kevin Rooney, sidelined since sustaining an upper-body injury versus Ottawa on Nov. 13, took the place of Hughes at practice, centering a line of Wayne Simmonds and Jesper Boqvist. Blake Coleman scored twice and set up two others Thursday, giving him six goals in seven games, and also tallied in last month's meeting.
OVERTIME
1. Rangers G Alexandar Georgiev allowed four goals in the previous matchup versus New Jersey.
