Last Meeting ( Dec 14, 2019 ) NY Rangers 3, Anaheim 4

The Anaheim Ducks will try to finish their four-game trip through Metropolitan Division rinks with a split when they visit the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon, following an inspiring performance 24 hours earlier. The Ducks received a goal in regulation and the shootout winner from Jakob Silfverberg for a 6-5 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday without captain Ryan Getzlaf (flu-like symptoms).

“Our captain was sick, we’ve got guys hurt, we’ve got a bunch of other guys hacking up a lung in there,” Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins told reporters after the win. “. … We might not be there from an experience point, and we’re certainly not one of the best teams in the league right now, but we do have really high character in (the locker room). I think they really showed that (Saturday) and I think they should be proud of the performance they put on here.” The Ducks have won three times in the last eight games and all have come in a shootout, including a 4-3 triumph over the Rangers in Anaheim on Dec. 14 with Silfverberg getting a regulation goal and the decider in the bonus format as well. That result started a three-game losing streak for New York, which came home to give up 11 goals in a pair of regulation losses to Nashville and Toronto this week. “I just thought our attention to detail against this team really was poor,” Rangers coach David Quinn said of Friday’s 6-3 loss to the Maple Leafs. “Things we hadn’t been doing really. Just really sloppy. … In my mind, one of our (worst) performance in a while.”

TV: 12:30 p.m. ET, NHL Network, Prime Ticket (Anaheim), MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE DUCKS (15-17-4): Silfverberg’s goal pushed his team-leading total to 13 and the right wing tied Getzlaf and fellow forward Rickard Rakell for the top spot on the club with 25 points. Center Adam Henrique notched his 11th goal - second-most on the team and second in two games - and added an assist Saturday while defenseman Cam Fowler scored his second goal in six games and seventh of the campaign. Anaheim is also without forwards Troy Terry, Nick Ritchie and Derek Grant indefinitely because of injuries as call-ups Max Comtois and Sam Carrick each scored Saturday with defenseman Hampus Lindholm adding two assists.

ABOUT THE RANGERS (16-14-4): Left wing Pavel Buchnevich ended a nine-game point drought with a goal and an assist in Friday’s loss to become the fifth player to reach 20 points (21) on the season. All-Star left wing Artemi Panarin extended his point streak to six games with an assist against the Maple Leafs and leads the team with 20 goals and 24 assists along with a plus-14 rating while center Mika Zibanejad has scored four times and set up three others during a four-game point run. Power forward Chris Kreider has warmed up of late, logging two goals along with four assists over his past six contests.

OVERTIME

3. Rangers RW Kaapo Kakko (six goals, 14 points), the second pick in last June's draft, has not scored in 16 consecutive games and owns a team-worst minus-13.
