The San Jose Sharks host the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday evening at the SAP Center and the NHL odds have Ottawa as a -197 favorite.

The Senators look for their second straight victory, and my Senators vs. Sharks predictions believe that they will find it in this matchup.

Read on for my NHL picks for Wednesday, November 27.

My Senators analysis

Once again, the San Jose Sharks are one of the worst teams in hockey. They are in last place in the Pacific Division, a ranking that has transpired due to weak play in all three zones.

Let’s start with the offense, which was already thin prior to the recent loss of Mikael Granlund, who missed Monday’s game due to an upper-body injury. Even with Granlund in the lineup, San Jose ranks in the bottom 10 of the league in goals scored per game, shots on goal per game, shooting percentage, and xGF/60.

The blue line is even worse, considering that the Sharks surrender the seventh-most goals per game and third-most shots on goal per game. Their underlying metrics are also poor in this department, ranking 29th in xGA/60.

That just leaves the goaltending, which is starting to crumble under the pressure of dealing with the play in front. Mackenzie Blackwood, who is slated to guard the cage on Wednesday, has now surrendered three or more goals in each of his past three starts.

Blackwood is 1-2 over that stretch with a .873 SV%. He is likely to have his hands full once again, given that the Ottawa Senators ranks in the top half of the league in goals scored per game and shots on goal per game.

Finally, if we like the Sens to win this game, then I see more value in their puck line at +127 rather than their moneyline at -197. Four of Ottawa’s past six victories have come by at least a two-goal margin.

Senators vs Sharks Odds analysis

Ottawa opened as a -197 favorite and is holding steady at that price. This line makes sense, given that the Sens outrank the Sharks in xGF/60, xGA/60, and expected goal differential per 60 minutes.

Both teams are stronger offensively than they are defensively, and, subsequently, this total sits at 6 and is more likely to move to 6.5 rather than in the opposite direction.
