Arizona @ Detroit preview
Little Caesars Arena
Last Meeting ( Mar 2, 2019 ) Detroit 1, Arizona 3
The Arizona Coyotes begin life without No. 1 goaltender Darcy Kuemper when they visit the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. Kuemper is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury he sustained during an 8-5 loss to Minnesota on Thursday, so Antti Raanta - a more than capable back-up - will carry the load for first-place Arizona.
Arizona, which recalled goaltender Adin Hill from AHL Tucson on Friday, is 1-1-0 since acquiring Taylor Hall from New Jersey on Monday and has alternated wins and losses over its last eight games. "We had our chances but we had no defensive conscience,'' Arizona coach Rick Tocchet told reporters after Thursday's game. "It's uncharacteristic stuff. Maybe it's the (post-trade) buzz around here, that all of a sudden we're going to become the Harlem Globetrotters. It's frustrating, but it's a good lesson for us." Detroit lost its third straight and is 2-13-2 in its last 17 games after a 4-1 loss at Toronto on Saturday. The Red Wings have the fewest points in the league at 21 and may be without Jonathan Bernier for a period of time after the goaltender left 6:52 into Saturday's game with a groin injury.

ABOUT THE COYOTES (20-13-4): Conor Garland leads the club with 12 goals but missed Thursday's game with an upper-body injury. Hall has an assist in each of his first two games with Arizona and owns 27 points (21 assists) this season while Nick Schmaltz tops the team with 27 (six goals). Raanta (5-5-2, 2.72 goals-against average, .919 save percentage) has lost three straight starts but is 2-0-0 in three games versus Detroit, allowing three goals on 66 shots.
ABOUT THE RED WINGS (9-25-3): Tyler Bertuzzi scored against Toronto and leads the club with 13 goals and 29 points. Anthony Manta (12, 24) left Saturday's game with 1:55 remaining after being thrown to the ice by Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin. Jimmy Howard on Sunday is expected to be activated off injured reserve and man the net after missing 10 games with a groin injury.
