Calgary @ Chicago preview
United Center
Last Meeting ( Dec 31, 2019 ) Chicago 5, Calgary 3
The Calgary Flames kicked off their two-game road trip by avenging a defeat to one Central Division opponent and have a chance to get even against another. After coming back repeatedly in a 5-4 shootout win at Minnesota on Sunday night, the Flames pay a visit to Chicago on Tuesday night -- one week after dropping a 5-3 decision to the Blackhawks.
Calgary made it two straight wins since losing six of eight (2-5-1) by becoming the fourth team in the league this season to erase four one-goal deficits in the victory in Minnesota, avenging a 3-0 loss to the Wild on Dec. 23. “I thought the biggest thing we could take out of the game is we were pretty resilient,” captain Mark Giordano said after the Flames improved to a perfect 4-0 in shootouts this season. Chicago has won four of five after erasing a two-goal deficit in a 4-2 victory over Detroit on Sunday in the opener of a four-game homestand. "We have to be really good at home, we talked about that," goaltender Corey Crawford said. "These are big points coming up so (we) just have to take care of home ice. We're're just worried about next game - can't think too far ahead."
TIME: 8:30 p.m. ET. TV: Sportsnet West, NBCS Chicago
ABOUT THE FLAMES (22-17-5): Interim coach Geoff Ward made some in-game line changes at Minnesota, shifting Elias Lindholm alongside Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau while Mikael Backlund centered the second line of Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett. Gaudreau has one goal and five points during a three-game streak, including an assist in last week's meeting that boosted his point total to 18 in 15 games against the Blackhawks. Monahan scored against Chicago last week, giving him 13 tallies in 19 career meetings.
ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (19-18-6): Dylan Sikura made the first goal of his career a memorable one, delivering the tying tally against Detroit for his first in 44 games, and he also collected a pair of assists in the victory over Calgary on New Year's Eve. "I waited a long time for that," Sikura said. "It's nice to get that weight off my back and hopefully get a couple more here." Leading scorer Patrick Kane has amassed nine goals and eight assists over his last 10 games, including two of each a week ago against Calgary.
