New York @ Detroit preview
Little Caesars Arena
Last Meeting ( Jan 31, 2020 ) Detroit 2, NY Rangers 4
The Rangers have a goaltending "problem" with a three-headed monster all needing to be fed playing time and it's The King's turn when New York visits the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday in the completion of a home-and-home series. Igor Shesterkin made 23 saves in the Rangers' 4-2 victory over the Red Wings at Madison Square Garden on Friday with Henrik Lundqvist taking the net back from the rookie Saturday.
“It’s been a while with the break here and sitting out a few games,’’ Lundqvist, who hasn't played since Jan. 11, told reporters. “So yeah, of course I look forward to it. It’s a good challenge to me to try to play on top of my game, even though I haven’t seen a lot of action over the last few weeks.’’ The odd man out for the moment is Alexandar Georgiev, who has slightly outplayed Lundqvist this season and could be traded prior to the Feb. 24 deadline, while Shesterkin is 3-1-0 with a .927 save percentage. Detroit has lost seven straight games (0-6-1), getting outscored 33-12, and boasts the NHL's worst record by winning 12 of its 52 games. The Red Wings score the fewest goals in the league at 2.11 per game and allow the most at 3.88.
