Los Angeles @ New York preview
Barclays Center
Last Meeting ( Nov 27, 2019 ) NY Islanders 1, Los Angeles 4
The New York Islanders showed their resiliency by staging consecutive third-period rallies en route to securing three of a possible four points in the first two contests of their three-game homestand. The Islanders aim to conclude the stretch by beating the Los Angeles Kings for the fifth straight time at home on Thursday in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Anthony Beauvillier set up Jordan Eberle's tally late in the second period of New York's 4-3 overtime loss versus Vancouver on Saturday afternoon before scoring on a breakaway 2:52 into overtime to cap a two-goal performance in a 4-3 win over Dallas on Tuesday. Beauvillier has nine points (five goals, four assists) in his last seven contests for the Islanders, who improved to 5-0-3 at Barclays Center this season and 10-0-3 in the last 13 in the building since Jan. 12, 2019. Los Angeles is headed in the other direction with seven losses in its last eight games (1-6-1), with its latest setback on Tuesday coming after it surrendered three goals to Washington superstar Alex Ovechkin in a 4:24 stretch late in the third period. "Our ability to close and finish out games hasn't been very good," Kings coach Todd McLellan said. "And that's the next step in our evolution."

ABOUT THE KINGS (19-30-5): Lost in Ovechkin's heroics of Los Angeles' 4-2 loss was Jeff Carter's first multi-goal performance since he tallied twice in a 5-3 setback to Vancouver on Oct. 30. Drew Doughty set up Carter's go-ahead goal on Tuesday to move past Rob Blake for sole possession of the most points by a Kings defenseman with 495. "It means the world to me," the 30-year-old Doughty said. "Growing up, you never think you're even going to make the NHL, so I never thought of this moment in my whole life until recently. But Blakey was one of my favorite defenseman growing up. He's a Hall of Famer, he's our GM right now, and to pass him, I can't even put it into words. It's crazy. It’s just such an honor."
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (30-15-6): Brock Nelson capped a two-point performance by scoring with 26 seconds remaining in the third period against the Canucks before setting up Beauvillier's overtime tally three nights later to boost his point total to 10 (six goals, four assists) in his last eight games. Nelson, who leads the team with 21 goals, set up Derick Brassard's first-period tally before the Kings scored four straight in a 4-1 win on Nov. 27. Jordan Eberle has 10 points (five goals, five assists) in his past 10 contests and joins Nelson, Beauvillier, Mathew Barzal and defenseman Ryan Pulock with three-game point streaks.
