Carolina @ Arizona preview
Gila River Arena
Last Meeting ( Jan 10, 2020 ) Arizona 0, Carolina 3
After putting an end to one streak, the Arizona Coyotes aim to extend another on Thursday when they conclude a four-game homestand against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Coyotes' 3-0 triumph over Edmonton on Tuesday snapped a season-high five-game skid (0-3-2) and pushed their winning streak at Gila River Arena to eight games (5-0-3).
"A lot of people contributed. Even keel. Don't get too high, don't get too low," Arizona coach Rick Tocchet said after his team shut down offensive dynamos Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. "We've got a tough game against Carolina. They've got to bring that juice again." Conor Garland has scored in consecutive contests to boost his team-leading goal total to 18 while giving him nine points (four goals, five assists) in his last eight games. Carolina opened its four-game road trip with a thud, dropping a 6-3 setback in St. Louis to mark its fifth straight loss away from home. "There were a lot of things that didn't go right. It starts with our desperation and work ethic," captain Jordan Staal said. "I've got to find more and everyone else in the room has to if we're going to push."
TIME: 9 p.m. ET. TV: FS Carolinas, FS Arizona, FS Arizona Plus
ABOUT THE HURRICANES (30-20-3): Sebastian Aho boosted his team-leading goal total to 27 and point streak to four games (three goals, two assists) after scoring in his third consecutive contest. Fellow Finn Teuvo Teravainen has elevated his club-best totals in assists (40) and points (51) with seven and 10, respectively, in his last nine games. Martin Necas scored on Tuesday for his fourth goal in 10 contests, a stretch that began with tally in the previous encounter with the Coyotes.
ABOUT THE COYOTES (27-21-7): Tocchet will ride the hot hand on Thursday when he sends Antti Raanta to the crease for his third straight start. The 30-year-old Finnish netminder, who turned aside all 30 shots he faced against the Oilers, had an abbreviated appearance against the Hurricanes in their last meeting on Jan. 10 after sustaining a lower-body injury. Tocchet told reporters Wednesday that goaltender Darcy Kuemper is progressing in his recovery from a lower-body injury, while captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson (lower body) and fellow defenseman Jason Demers (undisclosed) are considered day-to-day.
