Bell MTS Place

Last Meeting ( Oct 26, 2018 ) Winnipeg 2, Detroit 1

The Winnipeg Jets aim for their third consecutive home victory when they host the Detroit Red Wings on Friday. Winnipeg scored a total of 12 goals in winning its last two contests at Bell MTS Place but managed only a pair in Thursday's 3-2 loss at Minnesota.

Mark Scheifele scored in the setback for the Jets to tie Patrick Laine for the team lead in goals (24) and give him two tallies and three assists during his modest three-game point streak. Scheifele has tallied in back-to-back contests after enduring a five-game drought. Detroit is coming off a 1-3-1 homestand that concluded with 3-2 setbacks against Washington on Sunday and Montreal two nights later. The Red Wings have lost three straight and six of their last seven on the road (1-4-2) but could receive some help Friday as defenseman Mike Green is expected to return to the lineup after missing 13 games with a lower-body injury.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Detroit, TSN3, TVA (Winnipeg)

ABOUT THE RED WINGS (16-22-7): Andreas Athanasiou scored both goals against the Canadiens on Tuesday to pull within one of Dylan Larkin (18) for the team lead. The 24-year-old forward has netted six tallies over his last seven contests and is one away from matching the career high he set in 2016-17. Larkin, who tops the club with 41 points, was kept off the scoresheet on Tuesday for just the second time in his last 18 games as Detroit lost for the 12th time in 14 contests.

ABOUT THE JETS (27-14-2): Scheifele's goal against the Wild drew him within one point of Blake Wheeler, who leads the club with 55. The 32-year-old Wheeler, who was held without a point on Thursday, has been kept off the scoresheet in back-to-back contests just once this season (Nov. 16 and 19). Bryan Little notched an assist on Thursday, giving him four points in his last three games and leaving him one shy of 500 for his career.

OVERTIME

1. The Red Wings are 13-8-2 with Green in the lineup and 3-14-5 without him.

2. Winnipeg G Connor Hellebuyck could be rested in favor of Laurent Brossoit after making seven consecutive starts.

3. Detroit assigned D Brian Lashoff to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.

PREDICTION: Jets 5, Red Wings 2
