Toronto @ Vancouver preview
Rogers Arena
Last Meeting ( Jan 5, 2019 ) Vancouver 0, Toronto 5
Mitch Marner has played a significant role in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 5-1-0 run, highlighted by recording a trio of three-point performances over the last four contests. Marner looks to keep the scoreboard operator busy on Wednesday when the Maple Leafs play the second contest of their three-game trek through Western Canada versus the Vancouver Canucks.
"He just has really good hockey IQ. He knows where to be, and then you pair that with his elite skillset and you get Mitch. He's a great player," Toronto's Zach Hyman told reporters of Marner, who collected a goal and two assists in Monday's 6-2 romp over Calgary. Fellow linemate John Tavares has scored four goals and set up five others in his last seven games overall and also tallied in the Maple Leafs' 5-0 victory versus Vancouver on Jan. 5. The Canucks were also shut out in their last contest, a 3-0 decision against Vegas that dropped the sputtering club to 3-8-3 in its last 14 games overall. Vancouver didn't help itself by going without a shot on goal during a near-11-minute span in the first period and a 13-plus-minute run in the third.

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (41-21-4): Tyler Ennis recorded his first career hat trick on Monday to boost his point total to six (five goals, one assist) in his last five games. Hyman has also contributed to Toronto's high-powered attack, posting his fourth multi-goal performance of the season by tallying twice against the Flames to give him four points (three goals, one assist) over his last four contests. The offense isn't just limited to the forwards, however, as defenseman Jake Muzzin has six assists in his last six games.
ABOUT THE CANUCKS (27-30-9): Jacob Markstrom turned aside a season-high 45 shots against the Golden Knights and 88 of 93 overall in his last two games. "Obviously, we're confident that he's in net, but we have to play better in front of him, as well," forward Bo Horvat said of the 29-year-old Swede. "I think we've been leaning on him too much. He's been unbelievable for us all year, and we've got to start scoring some goals for him." Markstrom, who made 29 saves in the first meeting with the Maple Leafs, boasts a strong 15-10-5 record with a save percentage of .926.
