New Jersey @ New York preview
Madison Square Garden
Last Meeting ( Feb 23, 2019 ) New Jersey 2, NY Rangers 5
The New York Rangers are in the midst of a stretch during which they play six of seven on the road but make a pitstop at home to face the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. New York began the span Tuesday with a 1-0 loss in Dallas and dropped a 3-2 decision at Detroit in a shootout two nights later.
The Rangers, who have lost a season-high six straight games (0-2-4), are hoping leading scorer Mika Zibanejad can break out of his funk as he has been kept off the scoresheet in each of his last four contests. The 25-year-old Swede tops the club in goals (27), assists (36) and points - a category in which he needs two to reach 300 for his career. New Jersey continues its six-game road trip after suffering its fifth consecutive setback (0-4-1), a 3-0 defeat in Washington on Friday. The Devils have scored a total of five goals during their skid and just one in their last three contests.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG Plus 2 (New Jersey), MSG (New York)
ABOUT THE DEVILS (25-34-9): Despite being handed another loss, New Jersey received some good news on Friday as Kyle Palmieri (lower body) and John Quenneville (upper body) were in the lineup for the first time since Feb. 25. Palmieri, who leads the team in goals (26) and points (48), recorded three shots and a minus-1 rating in 21 minutes, 48 seconds of ice time while Quenneville was minus-2 in 15:24 of action. Travis Zajac has registered two points in his last four games and is one shy of 500 for his career.
ABOUT THE RANGERS (27-28-12): Pavel Buchnevich scored both goals in the loss to the Red Wings to raise his season total to a career-high 15, eclipsing the mark he set last campaign. The 23-year-old Russian has netted six tallies over his last 12 contests after scoring in just one of his previous 15 games. Henrik Lundqvist has played in 850 games with New York, joining Martin Brodeur (1,259 with New Jersey) and Tony Esposito (873 with Chicago) as the only goaltenders in NHL history to accomplish the feat with one franchise.
