The Carolina Hurricanes and Detroit Red Wings snapped losing streaks Tuesday and are out to keep the momentum going when they face each other on Detroit's home ice Thursday night.

The Hurricanes had lost four straight -- all in regulation -- before collecting a 4-1 victory in Ottawa. Carolina will be finishing off a six-game road trip on Thursday.

As usual, Sebastian Aho led the way. He had two goals and an assist, giving him a team-high 25 points this season.

"It's been a tough road trip for us, so it's nice to get back in the win column," Aho said. "Obviously, our goalie played a hell of a game. Special teams were huge and with the goalie's game, probably the reason we won."

That goaltender, Pyotr Kochetkov, made 31 saves. Carolina scored on both of its chances with the man advantage, while the penalty-kill unit staved off all four Senators power plays.

"There were some good saves and then special teams were big," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "Penalty kill was huge, you know, bad penalties there, but then the power play was good, so all around that's what we needed."

During Carolina's skid, three of the four games were decided by one goal, including the Hurricanes' previous two outings against Calgary and Vancouver.

"I think we were just a little more dialed in (on Tuesday)," Brind'Amour said. "Obviously, it's such a fine line from winning and losing and doing the little things right, which I thought we did here (Tuesday) for the most part, and then you get pucks to go in."

The Red Wings snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory at St. Louis.

Detroit had to overcome adversity, playing without its top two centers and a key wing. Dylan Larkin and J.T. Compher were placed on injured reserve on Monday, while David Perron is facing a six-game suspension.

The Wings also were playing the second game of a back-to-back and trailed 4-3 entering the third. Lucas Raymond tied the game with a power-play goal and Robby Fabbri scored at 6:38 of the period to give Detroit the lead.

Joe Veleno set up Michael Rasmussen for an empty-netter to clinch the victory.

"We're going through a tough time with our roster," Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. "Every team goes through it, and we're going through it now. We have to battle and get whatever we can out of it, and for us to play on a road back-to-back, trailing in the third period, especially with the way their fourth goal went in, it's a huge win for us."

Fabbri's presence in the lineup has made a difference. He scored a goal in the Red Wings' opening-night loss, then missed about a month of action with a lower-body injury. He's notched eight goals and six assists in 15 games since his return. He didn't score during the three-game skid.

"Resilience in this room is something we pride ourselves on," Fabbri said. "We use it to our advantage in a win like this. It's a big win for this group."

This will be the first of three meetings this season between the Eastern Conference clubs.
