The Birmingham Stallions lived up to their UFL title-favorite billing with an impressive win in Week 1. They’ll get another chance to prove it when they visit Motown and take on the upstart Michigan Panthers, who squeaked out the closest win of opening weekend.

Despite those efforts, Michigan is a distant 7-point underdog in Week 2’s UFL odds. Can anyone slow the Stallions? Read below for my free Stallions vs. Panthers UFL picks and predictions for Sunday, April 7.

Stallions vs Panthers predictions

In a matchup of reigning XFL and USFL champions – the two leagues that ultimately merged to form the current UFL – it was the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions that dominated, winning 27-14.

Matt Corral was fine in his season debut, going 12-for-21 for 201 yards with a TD pass and interception, but he was aided by a rush attack that churned out 171 yards and two scores. That was the highest rushing total in week 1. CJ Marable led the attack with 67 yards on 18 carries with a score, while Ricky Person Jr had 31 yards and a TD.

Perhaps the biggest wrinkle unveiled was the backup QB play of Adrian Martinez, who had three carries of his own for 52 yards.

If there’s a defense that might be able to test them, perhaps it’s the Michigan Panthers', who did a lot of bending, and not breaking, in an 18-16 win over the St. Louis Battlehawks. Their defense withstood a solid afternoon from AJ McCarron, who threw for 216 yards and a pair of scores, mostly by limiting the Battlehawks’ ground game to 62 yards on 20 totes.

Michigan showcased its own running game, with Wes Hills ripping off 85 yards on 11 carries – the best individual rushing performance so far this season. Quarterback EJ Perry was the main beneficiary of Hills’ efforts, rushing for a pair of TD’s to shake off a tough passing day, where he threw for 176 yards and was picked off twice.

Birmingham’s run defense was among the best in Week 1, holding four Arlington rushers to 59 total yards on 18 totes, a paltry 3.3 yards per carry. And though their numbers weren’t as noticeable as Michigan’s – Birmingham had just one tackle for loss and two sacks, compared to six TL and three sacks by the Panthers – their continuity looks to be a weapon as other teams try to get in sync.

There’s no other team in the UFL worthy of being a 7-point favorite other than the Stallions, and they should flex on the road against a Michigan side that barely escaped against the Battlehawks.

My best bet: Stallions -7 (-110 at Caesars)

Stallions vs Panthers same-game parlay

Stallions -7

Under 40.5

Only one team was able to cross 40 points in Week 1, and it was the Stallions, who combined with Arlington for 41 points.

While Birmingham’s scoring prowess is not in question – they have scored at least 20 points in 11 straight regular season games – Michigan’s offense might not be able to keep pace. Credit the Panthers for scoring on three of their final four drives, but it’s hard to ignore a first half where they punted three times and turned it over twice.

Michigan’s defense limited St Louis to just a single field goal and four punts in the first half to keep things on an even field, but Birmingham presents arguably the best offense in the UFL. Turnovers were about the only thing that stopped them on a day where it punted just once and owned better than a five-minute advantage in time of possession.

If they can contain Hills, there’s a strong chance this one stays Under.
