The United Football League continues into Week 4 after a week of close games and upsets, which was not common in this league last year.
Only one undefeated team remains, as the XFL Conference has been flipped on its head from last season.
Play gets underway for Week 4 on Friday night in Detroit, MI, and concludes on Sunday evening in Washington, DC.

Memphis Showboats vs Michigan Panthers
Friday, 8:00 p.m. ET, FOX
Showboats | Panthers | |
---|---|---|
+7.5 (-110) | Spread | -7.5 (-110) |
+320 | Moneyline | -410 |
Over 35.5 (-110) | Total | Under 35.5 (-110) |
The Memphis Showboats are still the worst team in the league at 0-3, but they've had two straight close calls after falling 18-17 last week at home to Houston.
However, head coach Ken Whisenhunt stepped down this week and will be replaced by offensive line coach Jim Turner. The Showboats rank last in rushing offense and lead the league in interceptions thrown.
Meanwhile, the Michigan Panthers will be looking to sweep the season series after winning 26-12 in Week 1 in Memphis. They beat the Showboats in almost every statistical category in that game, and Memphis struggled to get into scoring range all game. The Panthers have the second-best rushing defense in the league and should be able to control the ground game again.
The Panthers bounced back from a loss to Birmingham by beating San Antonio last week. However, this spread is a little big for my liking, and the big favorites have been killing me this season. Instead, I'll turn to a player prop.
The UFL’s leading wide receiver, Jonathan Adams averages 87.7 receiving yards per game and had 93 yards on six catches in their Week 1 matchup. We're getting this number at just 59.5. I love the Over, especially since they're likely to be playing from behind.
Pick: Jonathan Adams Over 59.5 receiving yards (-115 at DraftKings)
St. Louis Battlehawks vs Arlington Renegades
Saturday, 12:30 p.m. ET, ABC
Battlehawks | Renegades | |
---|---|---|
-1.5 (-110) | Spread | +1.5 (-110) |
-135 | Moneyline | +114 |
Over 39.5 (-110) | Total | Under 39.5 (-110) |
The St. Louis Battlehawks are coming off their first loss of the season, losing to the DC Defenders 27-15 at home. That was a big drop-off for the best offense in the UFL, and now you must wonder if maybe they were just playing bad defenses in their first two games.
The Arlington Renegades boast the best defense in the league through three weeks and will put that to the test. After holding both the Brahmas and Roughnecks to only nine points, they managed to hold the defending champions to 10 points despite the loss.
These two teams boast the second and third-best defenses in the league in terms of total yards. They are also the first and fourth-best defenses by scoring.
I would not be shocked to see either team win this game, but I would be shocked to see a high-scoring affair. I'm playing the Under in this contest and expect it to stay well below 40 points.
Pick: Under 39.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
Birmingham Stallions vs Houston Roughnecks
Saturday, 7:00 p.m. ET, FOX
Stallions | Roughnecks | |
---|---|---|
-7.5 (-110) | Spread | +7.5 (-110) |
-395 | Moneyline | +310 |
Over 36.5 (-110) | Total | Under 36.5 (-110) |
The Birmingham Stallions have not had the easiest time in their quest for another championship this season, but they've played three games against teams with a combined 7-2 record and a +57 point differential. Now, they get the Roughnecks, who are 1-2 with a -26 point differential.
The Houston Roughnecks' lone win was against the 0-3 Showboats by one point on the road last week. They lost to the Battlehawks by 25 at home and to the Renegades by two on the road. They rank seventh in rushing defense and last in passing defense. It could get ugly if the Battlehawks play to their strengths.
Last year, the Stallions beat the Roughnecks 32-9 and 35-28. I expect we see the usual Stallions of years past in this first game against a bad team this season. I wouldn’t be shocked to see them reach the 30s despite failing to score more than 21 this season.
Pick: Stallions -7.5 (-115 at DraftKings)
San Antonio Brahmas vs DC Defenders
Sunday, 5:00 p.m. ET, FOX
Brahmas | Defenders | |
---|---|---|
+7 (-110) | Spread | -7 (-110) |
+260 | Moneyline | -325 |
Over 38.5 (-105) | Total | Under 38.5 (-115) |
Last season, the San Antonio Brahmas only lost three games all year, and the Defenders only won four games. Now, in their first matchup of the season, the Brahmas are 0-3 and the Defenders are 3-0. That's quite a turnaround from last year.
The biggest difference from last season is how bad this Brahmas defense has been. They were expected to possibly have the best defense in the league and instead, they rank last in rushing defense, fifth in passing defense, seventh in total defense, and last in scoring defense.
The Defenders are not the best offense, but they did just put up 27 points on the road against the Battlehawks. They tallied up 346 total yards in that game, and they also have the third- and sixth-leading rushers in the league, as well as the leading passer.
The Brahmas showed some life on offense last week, and I could see them going all out in a game that could eliminate them from contention if they lose. Give me the Over.
Pick: Over 38.5 (-105 at DraftKings)
