Connecticut Sun vs New York Liberty Prediction, Picks, and Odds: Sun Don't Set on Liberty

The Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty lock horns on Saturday afternoon at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Sun look to keep their perfect campaign going, as Connecticut is 3-0 straight up, as well as against the spread. The Under has cashed in two of its three games to date.

The Liberty have split their first two regular-season games, losing in Washington in the opener last Friday, while winning the home opener against the Indiana Fever last Sunday, covering a 16-point WNBA odds spread.

The Sun have fired out of the gate this season, posting three consecutive wins and covers to start the 2023 campaign. Connecticut debuted with a 70-61 road win in Indiana, and the scoring has increased in each of the subsequent two outings.

Last time out, Connecticut shot 48% (29-of-61) from the field, including 36% (8-of-22) from behind the arc. Connecticut was able to win despite a minus-3 rebounding differential.

Alyssa Thomas was particularly impressive in the win, posting 22 points and 10 rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting, and she’s managed three straight double-doubles, averaging 18.0 ppg, 12.3 rpg, and 5.7 apg.

For the Liberty, they bounced back from a 16-point loss in the opener in Washington to pound Indiana. Not only did the Liberty win by 17, but they saved their best for last. New York outscored Indiana 18-5 in the final quarter to earn the cover.

Breanna Stewart went absolutely bonkers in the win, dropping 45 points to break a franchise record while setting a career-high. She also chipped in with six 3-pointers, 12 rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a blocked shot. Meanwhile, Sabrina Ionescu was good for nine points, eight assists, and seven rebounds, flirting with a triple-double.

While those stat lines for Ionescu and Stewie are impressive, that was against a bad Fever team. The Sun will be much more prepared to keep the dynamic duo at bay. The Sun has cashed in five of the past seven meetings in this series, and Saturday afternoon will be no different.

Sun vs Liberty spread and Over/Under analysis

The Sun have a good chance to burn the Liberty outright, as Connecticut has posted three straight wins and covers, including against Washington in a back-to-back set. That’s the same Mystics team that drummed the Liberty in the opener in D.C.

Connecticut has cashed in five straight Eastern Conference games dating back to last season, while going an impressive 12-2 ATS in the past 14 games on the road.

In addition, the Sun are 4-1 ATS in the past five when playing on three or more days of rest. On the flip side, rest is one of the few things that could cool off Stewart and the Liberty. New York is just 1-3-1 ATS in the past five outings when playing on three or more days of rest.

As far as the total is concerned, the Under is 7-1 in the past eight on the road for Connecticut, while going 7-2 in the previous nine meetings in this series. 

For New York, the Under is 4-1 in the past five meetings against winning teams, for which the Sun certainly qualifies. And the Under is 6-0 in the past six appearances on Saturday for the Liberty, for whatever that’s worth.
