Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will look to pile on the WNBA’s basement dwellers when they visit the winless Washington Mystics at Capital One Arena tonight.
The Mystics (0-10) have yet to pick up a win this year but are only slight underdogs in the WNBA odds against Indiana (2-9), which has lost four of its last five.

My analysis
Fans of Caitlin Clark who were excited to watch her play professionally may be getting frustrated, as the Indiana Fever simply don’t have the talent to win many games this season. But if you want to see the former Iowa standout win, tonight is a great time to tune in.
It’s not just who the Fever are playing tonight, but that certainly helps. The Washington Mystics have yet to win a game and have the worst offensive numbers in the WNBA, both in terms of points per game (72.5) and offensive rating (89.5). The Mystics have been able to stay in games against most of their opponents, but obviously, they’ve yet to get in the win column.
That makes Washington a huge change in quality of opposition for the Fever. Yes, Indiana has looked overmatched so far this year, and Clark has struggled to find her rhythm against her professional opponents. But part of that has been the tough schedule that has been tossed at the Fever. Indiana has already had to play the New York Liberty three times and the Connecticut Sun twice, and has also taken on the Las Vegas Aces on the road. That means that most of its schedule has come against the Top 3 teams in the league.
Beyond who the Fever have played, there’s also the matter of how they’ve been asked to compete against those teams. Indiana started with a stretch of 11 games in just 20 days, playing two back-to-backs and never having more than two consecutive nights off. Indiana has now rested since Sunday, allowing them to be fresh for tonight’s game.
These factors all suggest that Indiana will put in perhaps its best performance of the season tonight. The fact that they’re playing a hapless Washington team only makes it more likely that the Fever will walk away with a road win. I’m taking the Fever to cover against the Mystics.

My analysis
It’s been hard to nail down what Clark will do on any given night so far in her WNBA career. That’s not altogether surprising: she’s a rookie, and no matter how much attention has been thrown her way, she’s going through the typical ups and downs of a first year in the professional ranks.
Perhaps her most consistent contribution has been as a facilitator. Clark is fourth in the WNBA in assists, averaging 6.4 per game. In her last six games, she’s ranged from scoring three points to 30, and from grabbing two to 10 rebounds. But her assist total has been relatively stable, always picking up at least five dimes while topping out at nine against the Seattle Storm last week.
Clark has only gone above the 6.5 assists total in five of her last nine games, barely enough to make a profit based on her -120 odds tonight. However, Caitlin Clark odds bettors should benefit from the same factors that are helping the Fever overall tonight.
Finally, Clark will be coming off four nights of rest after a brutal opening stretch of 11 games in 20 days, and the Mystics are a relatively soft matchup. It’s unlikely that Washington will be able to devote the kind of pressure that has forced Clark into a league-worst 5.4 turnovers per game, giving her a bit more room to dish out the ball to her teammates.
This should be a night where the game slows down just a touch for Clark, something she could use after a rough adjustment to the professional game. I’m taking Clark to hit the Over on her assists prop tonight.

The Fever should enjoy a rare moment of success tonight, and that will give their stars a chance to shine. For my same-game parlay, I’m taking Indiana to cover and adding in my bet on Clark to hit the Over on her assist total.
I’m also taking Kelsey Mitchell to pick up a minimum of 15 points. Mitchell has done that in eight of her last nine games, and scored 14 the one time she came up short.
