Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever head to the Pacific Northwest in search of their first victory of the 2024 WNBA season tonight. Waiting for them on the West Coast is the Seattle Storm.

Seattle has also come up short of lofty offseason expectations, starting 1-3 SU (2-2 ATS) as the Storm work big-name additions Skylar Diggins-Smith and Nneka Ogwumike in the lineup. Despite those woes (and Ogwumike listed as questionable), Seattle is laying six points inside Climate Pledge Arena tonight.

I size up Aliyah Boston's impact for this non-conference clash and give my best WNBA picks and Fever at Storm predictions on May 22.

Fever vs Storm predictions

My best bet
Aliyah Boston Over 8.5 Rebounds (+110 at bet365)

My analysis

A big reason the Fever are 0-4 on their way to Seattle is the poor start from Aliyah Boston.

Last year’s Rookie of the Year is struggling to find her way in this new offensive setup and is coming off a 10-point effort against Connecticut in which she missed what would have been a game-tying layup in the final seconds.

Despite her scoring struggles, Boston is still battling on the boards. She pulled down eight rebounds in the loss to the Sun — a season-high through the first four games.

She’ll have ample opportunities on the glass tonight, with the Storm playing at a much quicker pace than those past opponents and attempting the fourth-most field goals in the league. Seattle doesn’t have the size and depth in the frontcourt like New York and Connecticut and has given up the fourth-most rebounds per game (36.5) to start the year.

Boston’s projections range from 9.4 to 10.3 rebounds, with my number coming in just shy of 9.5 rebounds from the All-Star forward. And due to her slow start to 2024, Boston’s rebounding total sits at 8.5 Over/Under.

Given my forecast, the Over 8.5 boards for Boston should be priced around -135. But if you shop around on Wednesday morning, you can find that same proposition at +110.

Caitlin Clark odds, prop for tonight

My best bet
Caitlin Clark Over 6.5 Assists (+100 at BetMGM)

My analysis

After taking on the veteran cores of New York and Connecticut, Caitlin Clark odds will be influenced by a familiar foe in Seattle tonight.

Storm rookie Nika Muhl is expected to make her WNBA debut after visa issues sidelined the Croatian for the first four games of the season. Muhl made waves in the NCAA Tournament — and upped her draft stock — with her relentless defense on Clark in the women’s Final Four. Clark shot just 7 for 18 in that game and scored 21 points in a two-point Iowa victory. Muhl did a great job forcing the ball out of Clark’s hands, which resulted in seven assists for the Hawkeyes’ star.

Clark has shown her passing flare in the past four games, averaging 5.5 assists and also watching numerous set-ups wasted due to poor shooting from her Fever teammates.

Monday’s loss to the Sun saw Clark miss minutes due to an ankle injury in the first half, getting only 27 minutes of floor time. She finished with five assists — all coming in the fourth quarter.

Her assist prop is at 6.5 Over/Under tonight, and given that this game will have a much quicker tempo than the past four games, there will be more shots and, therefore, more opportunities for assists. The Storm have allowed a league-high 22 assists against so far this spring.

Player projections six right around six dimes from Clark but given the uptick in tempo and Indiana’s others not letting Clark’s assists die on the vine, I see a higher ceiling. Luckily, the Over 6.5 dimes is paying even money as of Wednesday morning.

Fever vs Storm same-game parlay (SGP)

Aliyah Boston Over 8.5 rebounds

Caitlin Clark Over 6.5 assists

Storm moneyline

Boston is still battling on the boards, and tonight’s game will have a quicker tempo and more shot attempts — AKA rebounding chances — than the past four games.

Clark’s playmaking is picking up, and this should be an up-and-down game with plenty of buckets — at least seven coming from Clark’s passing.

My ratings listed Seattle as a 7-point favorite, and line movement suggests Nneka Ogwumike is back for the Storm. We’ll take Seattle outright.

Fever vs Storm opening odds

  • Spread: Indiana +4.5 (-110) | Seattle -4.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Indiana +172 | Seattle -215
  • Over/Under: Over 167 (-110) | Under 167 (-110)

Fever vs Storm spread and Over/Under analysis

• Some sportsbooks opened Seattle as short as -4.5 but other shops hit the board as high as -6. The market consensus has ticked up, with shops dealing the Storm as high as -6.5 on Wednesday morning.

• My WNBA power ratings produced an unadjusted spread of Seattle -7, but with Ogwumike listed as questionable after missing the last two games with an ankle injury, you can see why the spread opened lower.

• The Over/Under for Wednesday’s contest opened as high as 166.5 O/U at some books. That slimmed to 164 points before coming back up to 164.5 on Wednesday morning. Indiana is 2-2 O/U to start the season, while Seattle is 1-3 O/U.

• According to Covers Consensus data, 54% of picks are taking the points with the Fever while 61% of total picks are siding with the Over.
