Fever vs Sun Predictions, Picks, Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

Caitlin Clark's presence on the Indiana Fever's roster should only boost reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston's game and it will manifest in both players having strong games in the season opener against the Connecticut Sun.

Where were you when Caitlin Clark played her first WNBA game?

The answer to the question comes tonight when Clark and the Indiana Fever visit the Connecticut Sun in the 2024 season opener.

Clark is already the face of women’s basketball and tonight’s pro debut will be one of the most watched — and wagered on — WNBA games in the history of the league.

I break down the spread and Over/Under total for this historic clash and give my best WNBA picks, which include a Caitlin Clark player prop pick for Tuesday, May 14.

Fever vs Sun predictions

My best bet
Aliyah Boston Over 13.5 points (-115 at bet365)

My analysis

Indiana Fever All-Star forward and 2024 Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston is playing somewhat in the shadow of Caitlin Clark odds shadow.

Boston put in an outstanding first season in the WNBA and is expected to blossom in Year 2, especially with Clark creating space with her shooting and facilitating one of the most promising pick-and-roll pairings in the league.

Boston held her own against a strong, veteran Connecticut Sun frontcourt last season, putting up 15, 19, and 20 points in three of her four matchups.

The 6-foot-5 Boston dedicated herself to getting stronger this offseason and will go after a veteran core of forwards, including Brionna Jones, who will likely be limited as she returns from an Achilles injury.

Boston is one of the Fever's focal points on offense — an attack that is expected to pump out more points than last season when Indiana ranked among the bottom of the WNBA in points and pace.

With Clark on the floor, the Fever are going to push tempo while Boston’s athleticism and youth will challenge the Sun’s bigs to get up and down the floor in the season opener. Boston will also see a surplus in touches tonight with Kelsey Mitchell potentially sidelined. Mitchell led Indiana in scoring last season, with 18.2 points per game.

Some sportsbooks have Boston’s scoring prop at 15.5 Over/Under, but bet365 is listed at a low 13.5 O/U with the Over priced at -115.

Caitlin Clark odds, prop for tonight

My best bet
Caitlin Clark Over 6.5 assists (-110 at Caesars)

My analysis

Clark had her moments in the two preseason games, showcasing a little bit of everything in her bag. Her passing prowess was on full display in the second exhibition, recording six assists over 32 minutes in a loss to Atlanta.

During her college tenure at Iowa, Clark lifted teammates Hannah Stuelke and Kate Martin to double digits in scoring due to her presence and passing. Now, she teams with Boston, who is one of the best young players on the planet.

Connecticut doesn’t want Clark to get hot from outside, which means getting their heels above the 3-point arc and going over the top of screens. That forces Clark to put the ball on the ground, attack the middle, and distribute.

Indiana could also be playing without fellow guard Kelsey Mitchell, so Clark will have the ball in her hands almost every trip down the floor.

Her assist prop is starting to soar for this opener, sitting as high as 7.5 O/U at some books. However, you can shop and find Over 6.5 assists as low as -110 at Caesars.

Fever vs Sun same-game parlay (SGP)

Aliyah Boston Over 13.5 points

Caitlin Clark Over 6.5 assists

Alyssa Thomas Over 7.5 rebounds

Boston is bigger, stronger, and faster than the Sun’s aging frontcourt and this 13.5-point total is selling her short.

Connecticut will collapse on Clark and try to take the ball out of her hands. She’s a dangerous passer, especially in a pick-and-roll with Boston.

Thomas is one of the best do-it-all players in the WNBA. With Jones likely playing limited minutes and the Fever pushing pace, there will be rebounding opportunities. Some projections call for 10+ boards.
