Liberty vs Aces Predictions, Picks, Odds for Today's WNBA Game

The Las Vegas Aces can still score at will, but their defense has been atrocious to start the year. Our WNBA picks think that'll lead to the Liberty scoring enough to cover the spread.

The Las Vegas Aces will try to snap out of their recent funk as they host the New York Liberty in a rematch of last year’s WNBA Finals on June 15.

Las Vegas hasn’t played like two-time defending champions so far this season, and my Liberty vs. Aces predictions explain why N.Y. will cover this 2.5-point spread. Find out all the details in the WNBA picks ahead.

Liberty vs Aces predictions

My best bet
Liberty +2.5 (-112 at FanDuel)

My analysis
The Las Vegas Aces are still scoring the same way they always have, leading the WNBA at 87.3 points per game and ranking second in the league in offensive rating at 106.0. The trouble has been shutting down their opponents.

A year ago, Las Vegas was the best defensive team in the WNBA, putting up a defensive rating of 97.7. That number has ballooned to 103.6 this year, allowing opponents to average a surprising 85.3 ppg.

Some of those numbers are influenced by the fact the Aces like to run the court more than any other team in the league, but there’s no doubt they're now an all offense, no defense unit.

Meanwhile, the Liberty are as good as ever. Breanna Stewart (18.9 ppg) and Sabrina Ionescu (17.8 ppg) continue to pace the best offense in the WNBA, and unlike the Aces, New York is doing it on both ends of the floor — repping a defensive rating of 94.1.

Unless the Las Vegas defense reaches a sudden epiphany this afternoon, it'll struggle to find stops against the Liberty. Oddsmakers are giving the Aces a lot of respect by making them a favorite, and I’m happy to take a few points with New York.

Liberty vs Aces same-game parlay (SGP)

Liberty +2.5

Over 172.5

Sabrina Ionescu Over 18.5 points

Both teams have trended towards higher-scoring games, and the Liberty should go well above their season average of 85.8 points on their own to carry us by the total.

As a part of that scoring barrage, I’ll take Ionescu to score Over 18.5 points today. The sharpshooter has surpassed that number in three of her last four games, and without Gray in the lineup — or if she makes a surprise return and is limited in her minutes — the Liberty are likely to turn to the perimeter for their scoring, meaning more opportunities for Ionescu.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
