Lynx vs Dream Predictions, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

Napheesa Collier has seen a dip in offensive production over the last two weeks. Douglas Farmer breaks down why the Minnesota star should be kept in check tonight against a stingy Atlanta defense.

The Minnesota Lynx are playing for postseason seeding, while the Atlanta Dream are fighting for their playoff lives.

That gap in motivation may be enough to bet on the underdog tonight, but that comes with risk. If worrying about such risk, let’s use these Lynx vs. Dream predictions to focus on a more reliable player prop in my WNBA picks for Tuesday, September 10.

Lynx vs Dream predictions

My best bet
Napheesa Collier Under 20.5 points (-110 at DraftKings)

My analysis
Napheesa Collier came back from the Olympics and heard the Minnesota Lynx coaching staff loudly asking for more points. She responded, scoring 23 or more in four of her first five games back and averaging 25.6 points per game in those first two weeks back.

The presumptive MVP runner-up has since cooled off, cracking 20 points in just one of five games and, more concerningly, shooting a woeful 39.5% from the field in the last two weeks. Minnesota has still won four of those five games, but Collier’s offensive production has dipped.

It should slow further tonight against the No. 5 defensive rating of the last two months, effectively a month of games when accounting for the Olympics break. More pertinently, the Atlanta Dream also rank fifth in defensive rating since returning from that midseason pause.

The strongest argument for Collier to pour in points would be her chasing the MVP award, but at this point, Las Vegas Aces’ superstar A’ja Wilson could miss the rest of the season and still be assured that trophy.

Scoring has never been the primary piece of Phee’s game, that two-week surge back from the Olympics aside. The best part of that surge, at least now, is the value it created in this prop market.

Lynx vs Dream same-game parlay (SGP)

Napheesa Collier Under 20.5 points

Napheesa Collier Over 8.5 rebounds

Dream moneyline

Collier has averaged nine rebounds in her last five games, the five starts in which her scoring has fallen off. Since returning from the Olympics, she has cleared this rebounding prop in five of 10 games, including three of her last four.

Even if not scoring, Collier plays all aspects of the game. It's what makes her the star she is, and it's why the Lynx are such a foreboding threat for the WNBA title.

She will need to play all aspects of the game against a motivated Atlanta. Getting a home underdog with this clear edge in motivation provides too much value to ignore outright.

Lynx vs Dream opening odds

  • Spread: Minnesota -5.5 | Atlanta +5.5
  • Moneyline: Minnesota -225 | Atlanta +180
  • Over/Under: Over 160.5 | Under 160.5

Lynx vs Dream spread and Over/Under analysis

  • This spread opened with Minnesota favored by 5.5 late on Sunday, before valleying at -4.5 on Monday night and much of Tuesday. Some books returned to -5 in Tuesday’s early afternoon.
  • The total hit the market at 160.5 and has done nothing but fall, reaching 158.5 by Monday’s end and 156.5 early on Tuesday.
  • Though both these teams are more driven by their defenses, such a move in the total should always inspire more confidence in Minnesota's stronger defense.

Betting Analyst

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
