Mystics vs Liberty Predictions, Picks, Odds for Today’s WNBA Game

Tonight will mark the third of four matchups between the Mystics and Liberty, and despite New York blowing out just about everyone they play, that hasn't been the case against Washington.

After a first-place showdown, the New York Liberty now turn their attention to the last place Washington Mystics. The Liberty handed the Connecticut Sun their first loss of the season and will try to avoid being the first team to surrender a win to the 0-11 Mystics. They’re healthy 13.5-point favorites in the WNBA odds.

Is a letdown in order as the Liberty play the second night of a back-to-back? Read below for my WNBA picks and Mystics vs. Liberty predictions.

Mystics vs Liberty predictions

My best bet
Mystics +13.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
The Washington Mystics dropped a tough 85-83 decision on Friday night in front of a packed Capital One Arena — a venue change prompted by the arrival of Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever. Washington, currently the lowest-scoring team in the W at 73.2 points per game, did drop 80+ points for the first time in six games.

However, their defense couldn’t hold, which has been a theme this season. The Mystics are allowing 82.7 points per game, a Bottom-4 mark in the league, with opposing teams shooting at a 45.2% clip, the second-worst mark in the W. They’re also 11th in the league in turnovers, which explains why they allow the second-most opponent points off turnovers at 19 per contest.

The New York Liberty enter this one the winners of six straight, with five of those coming by double figures, the lone exception being the 82-75 win over Connecticut on Saturday night. The Liberty offense has been scoring at an 85.3 points per game clip on the year on 45.1% shooting, both Top-2 marks in the league.

New York plays both sides of the ball, too, allowing the second-fewest points in the W at 74.9 per contest, while holding teams to 40% shooting from the field, a Top-3 rank. This will be the third of four meetings this season, with New York taking the first two. However, these haven’t been blowouts. New York took an 85-80 victory on May 14 and a 90-79 win on May 31.

The Mystics have been gamers all season. Eight of their 11 losses have been by single digits, and only one — a 101-69 demolition at the hands of the Seattle Storm — could be considered a blowout.

Not including the Connecticut game, New York had won four of its other five games by 13 points or more, except for the Mystics. With the back-to-back for New York and the emotional crash from a first-place showdown, this has all the makings of a Washington cover.

Mystics vs Liberty same-game parlay (SGP)

Mystics +13.5

Breanna Stewart Over 22.5 points

Sabrina Ionescu Under 6.5 assists

We’ll turn our attention to New York’s top two stars for this SGP. Breanna Stewart is prime for a bounce back after a low-key 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting against the Sun. Throw in the fact that she’s had two of her lowest-scoring games against the Mystics this season — including a season-low eight points on May 14 — and the star forward should be the scoring leader for New York on Sunday.

The last time Stewart scored 13 or fewer was against the Fever in a blowout win on June 2. She followed that up with a 33-point bomb against the Chicago Sky.

We’ll wrap with Sabrina Ionescu and her 6.5-assist total. Ionescu was the star for New York against the Sun, potting 24 points on 8-for-16 shooting. She also added five assists, the fifth straight time she’s gone Under her total and the seventh time in eight games she’s failed to eclipse seven assists.

Ionescu also had just three assists the last time these teams played as she took the scoring lead with 24 points.
