The Chicago Sky meet the Phoenix Mercury for the second time this week but are playing their second game in as many nights after Saturday’s away victory over the L.A. Sparks.

My Sky vs. Mercury predictions believe rest will play a role in tonight's contest.

Read on for more details in my WNBA picks for Sunday, August 18.

Sky vs Mercury predictions

My best bet
Phoenix -7.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

My analysis

Tonight’s WNBA clash between the Chicago Sky and Phoenix Mercury is their second meeting this week; Phoenix won their Thursday night meeting by 20 points and are large favorites to win their rematch.

Sky leading scorer Chennedy Carter missed Thursday night’s tilt with some sort of illness but scored only nine points in a reserve role in Chicago’s 90-86 Saturday afternoon victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.

Will Carter make a difference tonight? Maybe, but the Sky is a young team led by double-double machine Angel Reese, and playing the second night of back-to-back games could pose a challenge to this young defense allowing 85+ in both games since the break.

Phoenix is 1-1 since the break; they buried Chicago by 20 but playing the second night of back-to-back games proved costly as they lost by nine on Friday at Indiana. The Mercury defense couldn’t slow Fever guard Caitlin Clark, but they did outscore Indiana by 20 during the second half of their nine-point away loss.

Friday night’s positive momentum along with a red-hot Kahleah Copper should prove to be too much for a struggling Sky defense to deal with. Chicago prides itself on their defense, but that defense has been shaky at best since they traded away guard Marina Mabrey. The fourth-best Phoenix offense should roll through a Sky squad that is only 2-8-0 ATS across their last 10 against teams with a winning record.

Phoenix is 7-2-0 ATS across their last nine home games and should cover the number tonight.

Sky vs Mercury same-game parlay (SGP)

Mercury -7.5

Over 166.5

Diana Taurasi 3+ threes

Phoenix doesn’t play much defense, and lately, neither does Chicago. The Mercury average the fourth-most points per game and have outscored their average in both games since the break.

Chicago did a much better job scoring against the Sparks, and with Carter on the floor should get enough buckets against a turnstile Phoenix stop unit with a 5-1-0 record to the Over across their past six.

Mercury guard Diana Taurasi has drained 3+ triples in four of her last five. She's drained 36.5% of her 7.5 attempts from downtown; since the break, Chicago has allowed 42% shooting from beyond the arc and that should allow for Taurasi to drain 3+ from downtown.
