The Connecticut Sun look to take three out of four from the Atlanta Dream when they wrap up their regular season series on Sunday afternoon and our Sun vs. Dream predictions expect points to be hard to come by.

Find out why in my WNBA picks for Sunday, August 18.

My analysis
The Connecticut Sun showed little rust out of the Olympic break in its return to action, dropping a season-best in points as part of a 109-91 rout of Dallas.

Perhaps the only thing concerning was the points surrendered, which also tied a season-worst. This from a team that leads the WNBA in scoring defense, allowing a minuscule 73.6 points per game.

The second-seeded Sun have plenty to play for, as they’re just three games back of the New York Liberty for the top spot in the league.

The road suits them just fine, as they have the second-best away record in the W at 9-3, and they average 82 points per game on 44.8% shooting, both upticks from their home splits.

The Atlanta Dream kicked off its post-Olympic 5-game home stand with a tight 83-81 win over the Seattle Storm, playing as 7-point home dogs.

Rhyne Howard was dynamite, dropping a game-high 30 on 10-for-16 shooting, including a crisp 5-for-9 mark from 3-point range.

The Dream now sit 2.5 back of the Sky for the eighth and final playoff spot, and it’s not exactly an easy way home.

Of Atlanta’s final 15 games, only four are against teams out of the playoff picture, and five (including Sunday vs Connecticut) are against current Top 4 seeds.

They’ll need to be stronger at protecting the basketball against the Sun. Against Seattle, the Dream turned it over 20 times leading to 28 points.

Connecticut is a Top 2 team in the league in turning their opponent over, and its 18.7 points off turnovers per game is just a tick behind Minnesota for the league lead.

The Sun have dominated this recent head-to-head, having won eight of the last 10.

But Atlanta showed it has some resolve, and that win over Seattle makes it difficult to trust that line.

Instead, let’s stick to the total, which has gone Under in four of the last five meetings – with the Under cashing four times at Sunday’s line of 156.

Sun vs Dream same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 156

Rhyne Howard Over 15.5 points

DeWanna Bonner Over 16.5 points

Rhyne Howard has only faced the Sun once this year, and it was a forgettable one, as she scored four points on 2-for-9 shooting in 32 minutes of work, as the Dream was crushed 69-50.

But Atlanta’s leading scorer has usually had a decent go against Connecticut. In fact, last season, Howard topped her 15.5 scoring line in all four games against the Sun.

Her 30-point explosion was the fourth time in her last six games that she’s scored 16 or more points in a game.

It will be tight, but Howard is in a good rhythm right now and should be able to deliver Sunday.

DeWanna Bonner wasted no time getting down to business post-Olympics.

The 36-year-old, who leads the Sun in scoring at 17.2 points per game, dropped 29 points in 33 minutes of work in their win over Dallas.

Bonner shot 8-for-14 from the field, including a 4-for-7 day from distance. It’s the fourth time in her last six games she’s gone for 20+, and Atlanta was a part of that run.

She scored 23 points on 7-for-11 shooting, with all her field goals coming from 3-point range in an 80-67 victory.

Bonner has topped the 17.5 total twice in three games against the Dream this year.
