After taking a thorough beating at the hands of the defending champs, the Connecticut Sun try to get back on track in the Emerald City as they visit the Seattle Storm on June 23.
Seattle will attempt to break into double-digit win territory for the third straight game, but my Sun vs. Storm predictions expect a determined Connecticut side to keep things tight. Find out more in my WNBA picks ahead.
Sun vs Storm predictions
My best bet
Sun +1.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
My analysis
The Connecticut Sun's top-rated defense took a hit as they were thumped by the Las Vegas Aces 85-74 in Sin City. That was the most points the Sun allowed in a game all season, with Vegas shooting 47.7% from the field.
The Sun also couldn’t generate enough buckets to keep up, with Connecticut being held to 75 points or less for just the fifth time all season.
Let's look at how the Sun match up with the Seattle Storm, a team that ranks Top 4 both in points per game and points allowed.
Both of these teams don’t shoot the 3-ball well, ranking in the Bottom 4 in the WNBA, but they make up for it with scoring in the key.
Seattle is second in the league in paint points at 40.9 per game, while Connecticut is fourth at 39.6. With the Sun set to have a stronger emphasis on D following the loss to Vegas, buckets should be hard to come by for the Storm inside.
The Sun have won three straight at Climate Pledge Arena and six straight in the head-to-head. Look for them to shake off that poor game in Sin City and get right back to winning.
Sun vs Storm same-game parlay (SGP)
Jewell Loyd is coming off her worst game of the season, shooting 0-for-9 from the field for a single point in 35 minutes in Seattle’s 94-83 loss in Vegas. Loyd has really struggled shooting the ball from distance lately, going a combined 3-for-30 from beyond the arc in the last six games.
Connecticut isn’t the opponent that helps Loyd bust the slump, as the team has the second-best 3-point shooting defense in the W (28.7%).
It was another rough outing for veteran Sun forward Dewanna Bonner, who scored just six points in 31 minutes against the Aces. That’s the second time she’s posted single digits in three games after dropping eight in a loss to the Dallas Wings.
In her last six games, Bonner’s scoring line has gone Under the 16.5 points total for Sunday five times.
