After two tough losses, the Dallas Wings flexed their scoring prowess in a huge win on Saturday night against the Phoenix Mercury.
They’re now riding that momentum to Crypto.com Arena to take on the Los Angeles Sparks as a 2.5-point favorite, according to the WNBA odds.

My analysis
It’s shaping up to be a competitive WNBA MVP odds race with several of the league’s top stars off to a hot start this season. One such talent is Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale.
Despite dropping 40 points in the win over the Mercury and leading the WNBA in points per game (31.0), Ogunbowale still has just the sixth-shortest odds to take home the league’s top honor. However, she’s positioned to shorten those odds further against the Los Angeles Sparks.
The Sparks are just 1-3 to start the season, with their most recent loss coming at the hands of Caitlin Clark and the Fever. While L.A. is a middle-of-the-pack defense, Ogunbowale will be a tough matchup with her sharpshooting.
She’s first in the WNBA in made 3-pointers per game (4.0) while shooting 40% from behind the arc, and is coming off a 7-for-12 performance from deep. Meanwhile, the Sparks are allowing the third-most 3-pointers per game (9.0) and the second-highest 3-point percentage (36.7%) this season.
Slowing Ogunbowale’s scoring down will be a challenge for L.A., especially with the Sparks allowing the fourth-highest 2-point percentage (48.6%) on top of their perimeter woes.
Not only will L.A. need to try and stop Ogunbowale from putting up points, but she’s a well-rounded enough player to pick up a few rebounds and assists against this defense, too.
The Sparks are just ninth in rebounds (33.5) and sit last in offensive rebounds per game (4.8), which bodes well for Ogunbowale’s glass cleaning. She’s averaging a career-high 4.5 boards.
She’s also averaging four assists per game and L.A. is allowing the most per game this season (21.5). Ogunbowale is a force putting up 39.5 points + rebounds + assists, and the Sparks just don’t have the talent to slow down the three-time All-Star.

One of the biggest acquisitions of the offseason for the Wings was point guard Sevgi Uzun. The two-time Turkish Super League champ has given Dallas a steady hand to set up their superstar, and Ogunbowale has responded by putting up eye-popping numbers.
With L.A. allowing the most assists per game in the league, Uzun is poised to continue picking up apples. She leads Dallas with 5.3 per game and has topped 5.5 in two of her last three games.
L.A. could have issues against Ogunbowale and Uzun, especially if rookie Cameron Brink can’t get going. The No. 2 overall pick has had a solid start to the year but could struggle to bring down boards against the Wings. She’s averaging 6.8 rebounds per game, but Dallas is second in the WNBA in rebounds (38.8) and first in defensive rebounds allowed (21.0).
