Jack Catterall returns to the ring and looks to further his claim as an elite junior welterweight at the expense of former two-time champion Regis Prograis this Saturday in Manchester, England.

After defeating rival Josh Taylor, Catterall hopes to down another former world champion to stay in the mix for a belt, whereas Prograis is in a must-win situation against the crafty Brit.

Boxing odds have Catterall as a -350 favorite and Prograis as a +265 underdog.

Here are my Catterall vs. Prograis predictions and free betting picks for October 26.

Catterall vs Prograis prediction and pick

Fight analysis

England's Jack Catterall gets a chance to go over another former world champion and stake his claim as the best 140-pounder in the world when he faces Regis Prograis.

This fight was previously delayed due to an injury Catterall sustained during training camp. However, it wasn't anything major, and the fight was only pushed out by two months. The extra time isn’t likely to change the outcome.

Catterall is a solid technician with fast hands, evasive footwork, and a style that's hard to pin down. He really should be the undisputed champion at junior welterweight because he was robbed in his first fight with Josh Taylor. Nevertheless, he righted the ship and dominated Taylor in their rematch, capturing a world title.

He’ll be facing a different kind of opponent in Prograis — one who is likely to be exploited by Catterall's style.

Prograis is a former two-time champion who can look like two different fighters depending on how he's approached. If you stay in the pocket and brawl, he demonstrates great hand speed, punch selection, and stopping power. However, when opponents don't let him inside, he struggles to get anything going and can appear completely lost.

Before his lopsided loss to Devin Haney last December, Prograis had a hard time pinning down Danielito Zorrilla, who used similar tactics, forcing Prograis to dig deep to edge out a win on the scorecards.

Like Haney, Catterall doesn’t have knockout power, but he isn't afraid to throw combinations and won’t resort to throwing one punch at a time. Catterall will need to be mindful of Prograis' power, but based on recent performances, Prograis has been unable to dictate the pace or land enough shots to wear opponents down. He is unlikely to threaten a late knockout.

Expect this homecoming to go according to plan for Catterall, defeating Prograis with little difficulty.

Best best analysis

Unless Catterall makes the gravest of tactical errors and suddenly decides he wants to be a power puncher, there isn’t much he needs to do to win this fight. His style is all wrong for Prograis, who is too lead-footed to pin Catterall down and ineffective when fighting on the outside.

My best bet is Catterall winning by a lopsided unanimous decision, as he’ll be quicker to let his shots go and pile up the points.
