The first fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano in 2022 was one of the best fights of the decade, and while these two aren’t too far removed from their epic battle, plenty has changed between them.
Serrano bounced back to win four fights in a row and maintain her status as one of the best fighters in the world, and Taylor suffered the first loss of her career to Chantelle Cameron in a bid to win a junior welterweight title, though controversially avenging that loss in a pair of bouts in 2023.
Taylor seems to have dropped off a bit since the Serrano fight, and this fight figures to be more of the same just as she’s starting to show wear and tear. Both women fought at a brisk pace with several rounds being hard to score, but Serrano’s heavy hands made a mark early on and bloodied Taylor, who rallied on the back end to secure a tight decision win. Critical to Taylor’s victory was her jab, which Serrano could neither take away nor solve.
While Serrano still maintains the advantage in power, she hasn’t scored a stoppage since 2021. That means this will likely go the distance again, but this time, Serrano will know her strategy will need to be limiting Taylor’s movement and not being on the receiving end of her jab.
