For my college football betting friends out there, I must disclose my complete and utter disdain for everything Oklahoma Sooners: I’m a proud graduate of the University of Texas, and you may have heard that Longhorns don’t like Sooners.
I’ll do my best to be objective in his preview, though my fervent hope is for Oklahoma to somehow end up fielding a fiercely unathletic squad of concession workers and/or small, lazy prairie dogs and being down 96-0 to the Kansas State Wildcats after one quarter of play.
With my inherent bias in mind, let’s check our best NCAA football picks and predictions for the Wildcats vs, Sooners on Saturday, September 26 in Norman, Oklahoma, a place I never want to visit. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. ET.

We’re looking at mostly cloudy skies with an expected high temperature of 78 this weekend, but prepare for some possible showers as well. There’s a 30 percent chance of rain, with wind expected out of the north at 10 mph. Any unexpected gusts mean you might actually get a whiff of Norman and the surrounding area, so please prepare your nostrils accordingly...they’ll thank you. Against the spread (ATS) pick
Kansas State was the leader of the Big 12’s absolutely embarrassing opening week when the Wildcats were taken down by Arkansas State 35-31 in Manhattan on September 12. They were led by quarterback Skylar Thompson, who threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns. While the K-State defense may have allowed those 35 points, they also forced two turnovers and recorded three sacks.
The Sooners opened their season by obliterating Missouri State 48-0. The Bears aren’t just an FCS school, they’re a bad one, having gone 1-10 in 2019. It pains the depth of my soul to say it, but Spencer Rattler continues Oklahoma’s impressive run of star signal-callers. Rattler made quick work of the Bears, going 14-for-17 for 290 yards and four touchdowns and the Sooners defense had what should be its easiest test of the season, resulting in a shutout.
The home team is 4-0 against the spread in the last four meetings between these two teams, but that shouldn’t be a factor with crowds at diminished capacity. The Wildcats beat the Sooners last season, so they won’t be intimidated, and a four-touchdown spread feels like an overreaction.
PREDICTION: Kansas State +28.5 (-110)
Over/Under pick
The Sooners defense will finally get a respectable test this week, and it’s really hard to judge how effective they’ll be with such a step-up in competition. While the Wildcats' D has shown an early propensity for generating turnovers, that won’t stop Oklahoma from scoring points with Rattler under center. The Over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings between these teams, and that’s the play here.
PREDICTION: Over 59.5 (-110)
Prop pick
I wish I could make a prop bet gauging how much my hatred of Oklahoma will increase during the season, but until that’s posted, I suppose we have to look elsewhere.
While Kansas State’s loss to Arkansas State was unexpected, the Red Wolves were also competitive last weekend against a talented Memphis Tigers team. K-State’s opening week blunder may end up not looking so bad in retrospect, and oddsmakers aren’t taking them seriously enough. I think there’s money to be made on the Wildcats team total.
PREDICTION: Kansas State team total Over 14.5 (-105)
