I'm going with Cal Baptist here in their SoCal Challenge tourney matchup tonight against Southern Illinois.
First off, this is going to be a real grinder of a game so just know that ahead of time should you decide to play along and then watch the game. We're talking about two great defenses here who stick to the plan while also playing lots of sets on offense. Very deliberate execution on both ends of the floor.
CBU began the season in rough fashion getting dominated by Long Beach, however they've played 4 straight solid games since then. But the perception of them is still low due to that Long Beach game and thus we find them as dogs here on a neutral So Cal floor against SIU. SIU is very disciplined, does many things well, and even won at Okie State a couple weeks ago... however, I don't feel they should be favorites by nearly two possessions here on a neutral court where points will be at a premium. In a matchup like this, I want those +3 points in my back pocket. And from a ML perspective, I also want the extra +40 cents in my back pocket too. Both wagers represent too much value for me to pass up.
SIU was in another physical grinder against UNLV the other day and lost by 7, as UNLV had more individual talent/athleticism to beat SIU on the dribble and make plays. I look for the same difference in athleticism and playmaking with Cal Baptist here to be the ultimate difference in this game against them. CBU was also in a grinder on the same day against Minnesota losing by 1 in OT, so each team is going to be hungry here yet also aware this is going to be a slug fest. Again, under this scenario, the +pts and +ML are too much value to pass up with the So Cal dog here playing locally.
