....because of that dream.
It is not unusual for cappers to have dreams about their games.
The game should be in our conscious mind most of the day before putting our play in. We should be thinking about it, contemplating multiple angles of substance.
Then, it sinks into of subconscious and become active in our sleep by default.
We dream every night. We simply don't remember what the dreams were about.
But particularly strong dreams stay with us, sometimes our entire lives.
Some dreams, like those of deceased relatives interacting with us, are almost always remembered.
I had a dream about this game. It was that Georgetown won:
84 - 79.
I'd be surprised if it happened but that is what my dream told me.
Now this was counter to the write-up I've had in my head for several days.
This was a "Back up the Brinks Truck" play. I was going to UNLOAD on St. John's.
I thought the line would have been -2, particularly with Pond's status up in the air. When I saw -4.5, my jubilation soured. That is simply too big a spread to casually lay to a GU team that beat St. John's twice, knows this is one of the biggest Big East rivalries of yesteryear (and still is even with both teams' reduced status), and is playing for it's one and only tournament life.
GU won't win the tournament. This is obvious. But sweeping St. John's not only in two games, but THREE games? That is quite the resume builder for Patrick Ewing to build off for next year. And still, it is something that is extremely hard to do.
So what are the positives of my dream?
1) The books know all of the above in a pretty high profile game and they really padded the line in what should be a tight game. That is, they know most if not all will be on St. John's and made sure the spread was adequate on the other side, as they are on the GU side.
2) Shamorie Pond's hasn't played in 2 games and Mullin was hesitant to say how much he'd play today. That is not a good sign given he scored 33 in a Double OT loss to GU last game. When a healthy Ponds scores 33 and you don't get it done, you are in trouble. Because Ponds is currently not 100% and 33 will likely not be in the cards today.
3) GU has suffered down the stretch here but did show life against a solid Butler team and Seton Hall. The other games were incredibly tough (@ Villanova, @ Xavier, @Creighton, @ Providence) and they simply aren't going to win the majority of those games or even half of them. Still their greatest successes came against....St.John's. And now we are getting 3.5.
I waited all day for this one to get back to 4.5 but it's not moving back as the Sharps swallowed it whole and licked the plate. So I will take the 3.5. This game should be tight, making 3.5/4.5 valuable.
Every fiber of me was on St. John's.
It was my back up the truck game.
That was my forebrain speaking, my rational mind.
But my dreams speak otherwise, and sometimes you just have to close your eyes on the hammock...and listen to the message from outside the Matrix.
The pick is in:
Georgetown +3.5 over St. John's
