Coach K has lost his groove.  I think this program is finished...as far as an elite team in CBB.  The mid-majors...kids with NBA dreams...they simply aren't getting the same recruits as they were a decade ago.  If I'm a kid with NBA dreams...DUKE is low on my list.

When Coack K leaves, which will happen in the next five years, DUKE is going to fade into obsecurity.  DUKE will become the Notre Dame of CBB.

That is another good point.  When Coach K goes, Duke goes.  UNC was able to weather the storm after Dean Smith left and a couple crappy coaches followed, but do you think a premier coach like a Billy Donovan or Pitino wants to coach at Duke?  Heck no, they won't want to deal with the academics.  Duke lucked out with a once in a lifetime coach who was a perfect fit for their team and situation.

Even when they had Sheldon Williams they got bounced in the tourney earlier than expected. They were also upset by Indiana the first year they had Boozer. The bigger problem with Duke is that they don't have alot of players that can create their own shot, which is why they don't have alot of NBA players. Think of their "go to" guys over the years (to name a few: Langdon, Reddick, McRoberts, Nelson, etc.). I think the real question, what is the reason that Duke has started the last 4-5 seasons with a great record and then gets shitted on by the end of every year.

It's true Coach has looked for more 4 yr type players lately instead of guys like Deng, Livingston, etc., but he does not shy away from guys just because they might leave early.  Academics plays some part in it, but we just haven't been able to snag that premier big man lately, which is hurting.
 
The biggest problem is that we have played the season more like a sprint than a marathon.  I'd rather be a #6 seed playing like a #1 near the end than a #2 playing like a #7.  Once again we wore down after the UNC win, and with our 3 pt makes plummeting, every game became much too close.
 
Zoubek should develop into a nice player, but we really need to have more of a definite 10 man rotation and play our best like Henderson, Singler, etc. more around 30 min per game.  It will create a few more losses during the season, but by tourney time we will be much fresher.
 
We haven't had as many definite NBA guys lately so we have to rely on 3s too much and less one-on-one, and with our better players playing much more especially down the stretch, tiring out has become a major issue.  Anybody who has seen us lately knew we were not going to get far even though we were among the best around Jan and Feb before the lull.
 
Next season won't change much in terms of height, but we should be better and more seasoned.  Hopefully Coach will use the season as a warmup instead of the end-all so by tourney time we will be at our best and have more guys who are ready to play.  The Suns don't win any titles with their style and they have a very nice big man and a star so how are we supposed to win with no big man and no legit star.

Stupid ignorant post..........Christian Laettner and Bobby Hurley both had SAT scores less than JR "Can't" Reid and other UNC players.  Shelden Williams, Elton Brand, Sean Dockery, etc were borderline ACC qualifiers.    Duke is the easiest school to graduate from........once you get in they breeze you through.......and I'm not talking about just the athletes.  You cannot get less than a B unless you do not show up for class or don't take the tests.  My brother went to Duke and he's a fuckin dumbass who just finished his work and graduated.

Duke recruited Brandan Wright and they were his top choice until Roy got him......coach K knew he was one and done.  Duke is recruiting the one and done but they don't get them bc Steve Wojo is the fucking big man coach.  They can't develop their players and Josh McRoberts (#1 player in country) and the Shavlick Randolphs of the world are proving this. 

Also, they have talent.........8 Mcdonald's All americans?  Gonzaga,  Davidson, etc are doing much better with 1/100th of the talent. 

Coach K is an overrated piece of rat shit.

also.....accventures you are a fuckin retard and disgrace to all duke haters everywhere.  Coach K is honest?   Gary Williams is 10 times the coach that K is.......he does so much more with less talent than K.  The only reason why K is successful is because of his great recruiting and the refs.  He is fuckin slime and an intimidator.

guys the duke program is in serious trouble, it looks like K has gotten away from what makes him successful.  They will contiune to win 25 games a year if only because of how  K impacts the game as far as the refs go.  K is an amazing coach but he has gotten away from what has worked for him over the last fifteen years.

If he is the genius that we give him credit for then he should realize thins and make the proper recrutiing adjustments.  Guys like Zoubek are and absolute joke.  He will NEVER be a productive player for them and its a giggle to expect him to be.  Mike hasnt had a big man since sheldon and even then the entire team revolved around redick.

I still think Mike is one of the best coaches of all time and in the top 3 still in the game today.  However he has gotten complacent over the last few years and his recruiting has become damn near lackadaisical.   Duke wins 25 games a year based on his in game skills but they wont threaten in the tourney until he gets back to  his danny ferry/christian latttener/elton brand power inside game

For me it's the overexposure on TV (especially ESPN and Dick V) plus the everlasting luv from the refs that kills any love for Duke. People didn't hate UConn or Florida or even North Carolina despite their championships and successes. People love dynasties until they become overkill.

My only question is why did Coach K give up yesterday. They were down 6 with 15 seconds left and did not foul. Wierder shit has happened.

As for the Duke program, they cannot recruit Big men because they are not a tradition big man school. Gtown recruits all the big men in the mid-atlantic. All in all...two other North Carolina schools go out today.

If you remember correctly, Duke had a declining time during the Mid 90's, after winning back to back chamionships with Hurley, Grant and Christian they had similiar problems. I don't believe academics has anything to do with it, as they have recruited many great players in the past who we're able to perform academically as well. Every program goes into a decline, I can't think of one that has never went through a decline.

Most go through a decline when you have a head coaching change....Dean to Daughtery at NC....syndeck to the big guy in the red jacket....but coach k is still at duke and the decline has set in......he expected his mastercard commercials and referee relationship to carry him to victory, those days are over.
