NEW CFB PLAYOFFS The College Football Playoff will introduce a 12-team playoff bracket for the 2024-25 season, expanding from the current four-team format. The new 12-team playoff field will include the five highest-ranked conference champions, which will receive automatic bids. The seven highest-ranked teams remaining will round out the 12-team format.
The best thing is playoff teams likely won't see players sitting out bc of NFL aspirations. That is always a problem with Bowl teams.

really ?? how do u figure ?
i think the main reason for opt outs is chance of injury ruining a big payday in nfl. but the same chance of injury in playoff games is the same as it is in bowls.

I guess what I mean is guys playing for a NC likely will play versus not playing (bc of the injury risk) in a regular Bowl. I could be wrong with millions of dollars at stake, but it's just a thought.

@sportschat
i dunno possible but it think its the other way
becuz this means once an opt out guy changes his mind and decides to play in the expanded format for a shot at championship glory he could be facing as many as 4 more games compared with only one bowl game !
his chances of getting injured over the course of 4 more games or 3 , or even 2 , and ruining an nfl payday shoot up much much higher

Yeah, that's a good point.
Mind you we are only talking about 8 more teams than the old 4-team format.

Dec.31/Jan01: Round 1 winners @TOP 4 BYE teams *NEW*
Jan 09/10: Semi-finals (4 teams)
Jan 20: National Title game (in Atlanta)
*In second round, the highest ranked BYE teams are HOME to the winners of lowest ranked MATCHUPS from round 1. Thus, #1 overall would be home to winner of the #8 vs #9 matchup...

Obviously we won't know until it happens but that does make logical sense. The top NFL prospects among those eight newly added playoff teams could potentially be facing multiple playoff games. As many as four! Those stars who would opt out if it was just one bowl game will surely still opt out and we should now see a lot more joining them!

@KellyM_1964
Seems very likely the more I think about it now. If we thought the post season had become a coin flip in the last few years with all the opt outs just think of it going forward!!!

Fubah's hopeful look at rankings within each Conference for the first few weeks of the coming season. After that, we shall see.
Of course INJURIES, dismissals and/or SUSPENSIONS could wildly affect these, so I may need to adjust accordingly as the season gets underway. But for now this is how I see it shaping up, with thanks to Phil Steele's mag and Massey for some info that aided my views.
