I am a huge proponent of betting openers , ( have been even back in the 

days when I was hanging out at the Stardust on Sunday Nights waiting for

them to hang a number).

These days , with a lot more capital chasing a limited amount of CFB games ,

the likelihood of seeing larger line moves on openers continues to increase.

This means very simply that the higher the price you pay for a wager ,

the lower your probability of success becomes in cashing the ticket.

 I'm seeing SMU is now being offered at - 25 right now at some shops ,

after opening at - 19 ' at DK. Points to what I was referring to in my post #  7.

FWIW , once this line moved past 23 ' , I do not see any value on  either

side of this match up.

i been to the stardust and riviera across the street right?  man i stayed at off beat hotel and had to cab ... got smart and LOVED DOWNTOWN....first trip was sidewalks and got real deal on some nutmeg... youth WOW  lot uniformed cops walking around

Stardust and Riviera  both gone now. I really miss the old Stardust days.

Downtown has changed for the better I think. When you come to LV next time,

you gotta check out Circa. Think you'd like it.  

 Hell , I've got to admit that I live here and don't go down there very much

any more. Since I've got Circa's phone app, on Sunday mornings , I can

sit here in my Jockeys, in the house and not have to deal with 115 degree

weather while I bet some football.

I began my Sports Betting career back in the early '80's , ( back before computers ).

Fun times back then. My favorite shops to hang out at in those days were

the Stardust , Barbary Coast , Little Caesar's , Binion's and the Gold Coast .

FWIW, It's time for we who wager on CFB to realize that the transfer portal

is becoming more about the " Dash for Cash "  rather than seeking more

playing time. I cite the fact that 3 - 5 Star , and 117 - 4 Star players have

opted to change teams for the 2024 season. We have to analyze teams

to find out how coaches deal with losses at key positions to the TP to

determine if the Coaching staff can truly upgrade their roster , understand

how the process affects their capability to succeed this season , and most

importantly , will their limitations to access NIL money determine their W/L

record this season. For some teams access to  NIL money does not seem

to be a problem.

Things to Watch for :

Net gains / losses of Starters at KEY positions.

Teams that have lost significant depth at KEY positions.

Teams adding / reducing their exposure to NIL commitments.

Teams that are losing 4 Star recruits to other teams. ( some to teams in their own Conference )

I'll cite an example . A Top 15 P4 team this season has lost

3 - 4 Star players in their Defensive Secondary. 1 to graduation,

and two to other teams via the Portal. What are their chances

for success this coming season since they have not accessed

the Portal to replace them ?

There are multiple examples of this on teams this season, and

as I stated in another thread , losses of edge rushers put more

pressure on Defensive Secondaries , losses at both positions

lead a team to a significant decline in defensive capabilities.

This season we will see teams that are " Haves" and also teams

that are " Have nots " either due to poor roster management or

lack of access to NIL funding that is necessary to compete at the

highest level.  It is up to we, as bettors to know the difference

before we place a wager.

Hey WG36 thanks for posting, great info! P.S. you forgot to include who the ville is playing.

On 11 / 2 , Louisville plays Clemson at Clemson.

Thought I'd take some time to remind the Forum that to be successful

at betting CFB, a lot of time and effort will be required this season.

Oddsmakers have gotten a lot smarter since I started betting sports

back in 1983. To keep up with them and the ever changing game of

College Football, I'm required to dedicate a lot more time to understand

the nature of changes as they happen, and exactly how they affect my

ability to determine True Line Value and Win Probability on a play.

As long as I can do this , I can succeed at this. But that is only if I have

the discipline to only wager on plays that can pass a rigorous

scrutiny, and I can buy them at a price that gives me the WP that I

need to win the wager. This  is where the 2 am capping sessions come in.

My best chance to get the price I need is to be prepared when the

Oddsmaker posts his openers , and be willing to pull the trigger with full

confidence when the right number presents itself. It is my job to know

just what the right number is , and execute the trade immediately, as the

number will not last long.

When you develop the skills to do this , Sports Betting can be a lot of fun.

Hey bud. Hope all is well with you. I saw that BOL does not have it as

one of their GOY's. Here that line is all over the place. Circa still has it

at  + 9 , and hasn't moved it since it first posted. DK has it at + 8 , while

WH has it at + 7 '. Remember, L'ville is on the road at Clemson in that one.
