We went 13-3 during the regular season and we have 13 more Special's upon us. I will be coming out with 1 a day as I want to do write-ups for all of them. The final Special will be coming out on Xmas eve so it will be a countdown to X-Mas in a way. Looking forward to a good bowl season.....
On the 13th day before X-Mas my true lord gave to me......

OK some ground rules need to be set so this doesnt get out control:
1. Only insight posted please, I appreciated the and posts but this thread will get way too long. So if you have some valuable insight to add to the thread feel free but write on my space or something if you want to wish me luck. Thanks guys
2. Yes, I am betting my own money on these games as well, so when there is the inevitable loser I feel just as bad as you guys, so keep the bashing out of here
3. Merry Christmas

The Buffalo Bulls and Connecticut Huskies meet on January 3rd in the International Bowl in Toronto, Canada at the Rogers Centre. We know how well that has worked out for Buffalo sports squads so far. This game looks like a pretty simple cap for me. Any team this year that has attempted to run against the Bulls with any conviction has been successful. There defense is not big enough to handle the offensive line of the Huskies. UConn has had success running in the Big East and when you take this in conjunction with UB not being able to stop MAC running attacks you have a serious mismatch. Truth is Buffalo have been a Cinderella story this year and they have gotten fortunate in many cases. I dont think anybody truly thinks they should have beaten Ball St. by 18 points. They got very fortunate with their 2 defensive touchdowns and while I'm not taking anything away from their win they could have easily lost a close game in that one. There biggest problem this year has been their ability to play defense. They are abysmal. If anyone remembers watching the Bowlign Green game earlier this year they know what I'm talking about. They wont stop Donald Brown. If he plays the full 4 quarters he runs for 300 yards. I've made some outrageous statements this year and I do not believe this to be one of them. They gave up over 150 yards to 2 different players on Kent St. this year. I would like this matchup a lot more if UConn committed stupid turnovers that UB could thrive on. But they dont, they will just pound the ball the entire game. UB right now is the most overvalued team in the bowl process. You pit these teams against each other for the MAC Championship and I think UConn is a 10 point favorite. But one win over Ball St. in which they imploded and UB is only a 4 pt dog?? That is crazy and public perception will probably put a lot of money on the Bulls in this one. I just dont see it. UConn is coming off of two horrible losses. We all watched them play South Florida and come up short and then get smoked by Pittsburgh. But when you go back and look at the game the final score is not indicative of how the game went. Pitt was only leading 13-10 late in the 3rd quarter and hit a big play which made UConn desert the running game. A pick 6 sealed the deal and made this look like a lopsided win. Factor in that Buffalo is a slow starting team offensively and you should see UConn jump out to an early lead and pound Buffalo to death.
Prediction: UConn-38 UB-17

Bendi...we're not off on the right foot here so far, first Tech and now this. I have done well with Buffalo as you have this season. I can understand a fade here. Just one thing to keep in mind off the top of my head in this matchup...check out the common opponent Pitt...
Pitt narrowly beat Buffalo in week 2, and you already pointed out the blowout the Panthers just laid on UConn. The only reason I bring this up is that it kinda goes against your point of an interior mismatch at the line of scrimmage. Buffalo did hold Shady McCoy to a somewhat reasonable 88 yards on 19 carries. I tend to think that Buffalo may have a better run D against teams that will come right at you with the run as opposed to ones that run a spread or option offense. Therefore seeing as how UConn has a more classic approach to the running game, this could be something that Buffalo is more apt to handle.
I agree that maybe Buffalo is no longer the pointspread sleeper that it has been all year, but I think they could have some magic left for UConn.
Call it more of a lean at this point, but my lean is on Buffalo right now.

All good points and appreciated Wiz I want to you to back and look at the play-by-play's of those games though. You will see Pitt came out in the game against Buffalo with a gameplan to pass the ballMcCoy also got injured during this game and only ran the ball twice in the 2nd quarter. They came out in the 3rd quarter and what did they do? Passed it more. This was just a horrible gameplan by the Stache. The fact McCoy only the got ball 19 times is a joke. Go back and look at their drives and you will laugh. It was the complete opposite gameplan to what they had against Uconn. It was Stull pass twice, McCoy run once. They should have also blown Buffalo out if they didnt have a moron for a coach

Another reason to like UCONN is that Turner Gill has been and will be interviewing for various other coaching positions during the time between the MAC Championship, and the Intern'l Bowl. Got to think this will be distracting for the players and staff. In the event that TG accepts another job, the line will move; so, those who like UCONN would be wise to jump on it now.
Also, like the fact that UCONN lost in a bowl last year, whereas Buffalo is a bowl newbie. UCONN will be determined to close the season with a win while Buff will be happy to be there.

I actually tend to think the opposite here. The players love this guy and understand they play for Buffalo and he deserves better all around. The same scenario occurred in the off-season last year and they interviewed the players and they were upset that he didnt get the Nebraska job and thought he deserved it. They know they are a part of something special right now. They have been putting up with their coaches job searching for awhile now and will not be a distraction. Turner has more integrity than to allow this to affect their performance in a bowl game.
Your point on the bowl experience I do like though. UConn has been there and know how to deal with a month layoff. This isnt something a team is used to so it's definitely a notch on the belt of the Huskies

Looking back, you are very correct...there were a ton of passing dominated series by the Pitt offense. If I had to guess, I'd say that Wanny was getting Stull as many throwing downs as possible before the meat of the schedule came up. He was only basically playing in his third college game of his career so the passing reps were important for Stull. Regardless, Pitt was held to 3.6 yards per attempt on the ground, which is pretty respectible for the Buffalo.
All in all, this is probably pretty close to useless information at this point in the year. Buffalo is a different team now then they were back then...and the same might be said about UConn. I guess I'm seeing two teams that went in opposite directions this year, and my guess is that there is great potential that UConn won't be getting up for this matchup as much as Buffalo will.
People like to talk Xs and Os a lot, as we are, but at this time of the year there's more emotion (or a lack thereof) that factors into these games...and that's what can be tricky about pulling winners off the card.
As long as Turner Gill doesn't take an offer to leave before this game, my lean is with Buffalo for now.

You can also look at how UB's run defense has deteriorated as the year has progressed. Not sure why that's the case but they couldnt stop me(5'9, 165) running the ball right now

what's up bibendi23 quick question for you. Do you really think these lines will all go up? I'm assuming that's the reason your locking them in now? And secondly you said you've locked in 13 games at roughly a dime a piece based on your unit's that you play. Where are the rest of your picks? Thank you keep cracking heads
