Curious why you think Cal is a bad match-up for the Horns.
Jimmy- along lines RJ mentioned, we are a running team and Cal can stop the run. We don't have the passing proficiency as we lack any kind of serviceable QB---which I personally don't believe will change in 4 weeks. Cal also has the #1 pac 12 pass d anyways---although got torched by USC through the air/Woods.
Sure, our defense is good. But Maynard can extend plays and beat us with that stud WR Allen. I also question how much motivation this team has after losing 4 of our past 5.
I think folks have to realize this is a rebuilding effort at Texas---we are even getting jucos for next year, for the first time under Brown. Years of lazy recruiting, especially on the o-line, have come to haunt the Horns.

the last thing is that Harsin has had to manufacturer scores with trick plays this year due to offensive ineptitude---Cal has a month to watch all of them on tape. Won't be tough to prepare for.

RJ- agree on Cal (and i'm going to the game). bad matchup for the Horns.
Also think Gundy's interview the day after said it all. They left it all on the field at Bedlam. Reminds me of Cal when they got jobbed by the Rose Bowl and got blown out by TTech. Stanford will be one of my largest bets of the bowl season.
Here's Gundy's quote (that I could find thru the web):
[quote] "If we'd have taken care of business at Iowa State, we wouldn't be having this discussion," Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said. I think it really comes down to what I said last night, and I really meant it was: `They had their shot. We want our shot,' and it didn't work out that way. That kind of disappoints me a little bit that enough people that have some say-so in it across the country wouldn't say, `We already saw them play once, at home."
That hardly sounds like a guy feeling jobbed of the national championship game. It almost sounds like he blames his team for losing vs Iowa State. He doesn't sound very impassioned about this.
Contrast it w/ Gary Patterson's comments last year. There was a guy who was upset.
Plus, guess who's one of coaches' poll voters picking Okie State #4 and contributing to them being denied a BCS championship appearance? David Shaw, head coach of Stanford.
First Big 12 championship in 50 years. I'm sure that'll be plenty of motivation for the Cowboys.

I'm not buying the Stanford coach voting OSU #4 angle. Stanford only has one loss just like OSU. They had every right to the number 3 slot just like OSU. It's going to be very hard for Gundy to sell his players on that angle. For that matter the Stanford HC could use the same argument. Why did Gundy vote his team $3 and Stanford #4? I know this is OSU's first BCS bowl and Big 12 championship in 50 years. And they will be motivated. But on the other side of the coin, OSU hasn't ever been in this position, and Stanford has by playing in a BCS bowl last year. It's not always easy getting that first BCS win against a quality opponent with a better defense. Just ask Oregon.

Even though Sun Devils completely tanked down the stretch (lost 5 of their last 6 games), I think they are the more talented team here, and that they pull it together and play well. They should be able to get into the 30s against Boise's defense and that should be good enough to cover and possibly win outright.
ASU +14 and a small play on the ML.
Correct me if I am wrong but doesnt ASU have one of the worst pass defenses in College. Not a good thing vs a very talented QB playing his final game

that's if Maynard isnt throwing them into the ground. he can be completely brutal and he can thread a needle.
Texas is a good team. Their losses pretty much all came against ranked teams..ou, osu, kst, bay, mizz...Cal isnt a quality top 25 program. I havent read much in the Austin paper yet about the game to check on motivation. Hard to get a feel for this team. They should have a 100% healthy Brown and Bergeron finally which they havent had since the KU game. Unless Harsin works some magic, the pass game is still going to suck rocks.
Lots of youth on this team and most starters have not played in a bowl, so I dont expect a half-assed effort. Texas 8-2 SU last 10 bowls, but 3-7 ATS. I'm keeping my eyes open for some good info on the game.

Who are you playing tmrw? I like Wyoming +7. They have the motivation here with Temple still beaten up and playing in the worst bowl out of all the MAC teams. Temple underachieved all year.
I also love Utah St with Ohio coming off that heartbreaker in the MAC Title game.
No opinion on SDSU/La Lafayette. Line seems right. Motivation and location favors the Rajun Cajuns but SDSU has more talent and Hillman and Lindley are very good.

I did more research on the second game today and I am switching my pick to Ohio. They are better in the trenches, they have the better defense, and better QB.

I love this thread and have much respect for your opinions, as well as jimmydafreak and others. I have noticed that the past couple of years the favorites have covered in most of the bowls. Do you expect that trend to end this year? I am seeing lots of love for some dogs here.
Thanks!
