Cincinnati vs VA TECH am I missing something???

Why is Cincinnati favored over Va Tech. line opens as a PK and has jumped to -1.5... Am I missing something here, I think Va Tech destroys this team.

right there with you man... don't overthink it in my opinion... Cincy is 11-2, VT is 9-4... i would get on it before it continues to move the other way... got it at (+2) but my books have it at (+1.5) or (+1) now...

VA TECH +1.5 is my first played posted for this bowl season.

  The difference in this matchup is Tyrod Taylor's ability to move the chains with his legs ...

VTech is probably the play I like the most among all the bowls.  Better defense and special teams.  Hell even the offense has an edge with Tyrod's scrambling abilities.  I really hope the line moves to Cincy but i doubt it, it might be a pick'em by kickoff.  +105 is good enough for me.

Maybe you guys have missed these teams this year, but VT's offense is dismal.  Don't just look at how many points they average per game.  Many of those touchdowns are defensive.  I'm a huge VT fan and their offensive capabilities have been on a huge decline for several years.

Cincy, on the other hand, has a lot of offensive speed and their defense is fairly reputable.  Not to mention they will be very jacked for this game.  A lot of the Hokie kids have been here before.

Many ways to look at this game, just remember, the line is low for a reason.

This is a Cincinnati team that lost to a not so good U Conn team like 40-16 scored under 20 against some pretty bad teams Akron, rutgers, Conn. You can figure Va Tech to hold them under 20, do not see where Cincy can compete in this game. JMO though,

Cincy is 11-2. and ranked 12th. They got to be favored somehow.  Anyway if you into trends, Jan. 1st is a thursday and we all know VTech is really good on primetime thursdays

I'm a cincy homer and have yet to make up my mind...I will probably just cheer for my boys.

I have to ask...did you watch the UCONN game?  You do understand that A) UCONN was healthy and at home and B) UC's game plan went to hell in a hand basket b/c of Tony Pike last feeling in his throwing arm going into the 3rd quarter...which by the way, UC had the lead.

When they switched QBs...to...um....their 4th string....Anderson was not prepared nor mentally ready and he tossed up two picks.  UC got caught sleeping and the circumstances didn't help...

UCONN put up 20 unanswered in the fourth quarter thanks to offensive turn-overs...not b/c UCONN can put up that many on the UC D.

I'm still capping this game...but UC is a solid football team - 11-2 after going through a handful of QBs with an excellent headcoach.

I respect your insight often, but he beat so and so who lost to Akron stuff isn't the best angle.

I was the biggest VT hater for most of the year. The offense is finally established though. They were horrible to watch most of the year but they have turned the corner. They have long clock-consuming drives now and they keep their defense off the field long enough to have them fresh. Earlier in the year they got in trouble b/c they would go 3 and out and the defense would still be tired when they came back on the field. That is the major reason Tech has been thriving of late. I like the Hokies in this one by a 31-17 margin

These defenses are very close with a pass defense edge to Cincy, but the big edge is for Cincy at quarterback with Pike playing well the last several games. He's a much, much better passer than Taylor. The UCONN loss was a long time ago and Cincy had 6 turnovers in that game to none for the Huskies, including 2 interceptions by Anderson at QB. Since then, Cincy has played very well, with their worst effort being the non conference game at Hawaii. This game is a total toss up to me but Pike should have openings against Virginia Tech's defense, and in bowl games the better quarterback is a big edge when other factors are close.

Cincy had a horrible, and i mean horrible 4th quarter against uconn.  Keep in mind, Pike had to leave the game at halftime with numbness in his injured hand.  The only other loss was to Oklahoma, and that game was still up for grabs until late 3rd qtr.  Cincy may not destroy this team, but the bcats will win.  With a number this low, i'm betting the bearcats cover too.  Va. Tech. CANNOT throw the ball. U.C. will bend with the pass defense, but will not break.  I've been watching it all season.  U.C. covers in this one.

one question i have for the Cincy backers... who is your QB for this game: Pike or Grutza?
 
people are talking about how Pike had to leave the UConn game and that's why they got blown out... but i have to say... i've seen Pike play... he's horrible!  and that's when he's playing against shoddy defenses like Hawaii... what's gonna happen when he lines up against VT?  he is just a disgustingly awful college QB... Grutza at least uses his head... i am praying to God that Pike is the QB for this game, although i suspect they will platoon them and use both... which still isn't gonna bode well...
 
Cincy's most impressive win was against who?  Pitt at home in a close one?  Rutgers at home back in October when Rutgers couldn't beat anyone?  WVa on the road in OT?  face it: the Big East was complete garbage this year... you will see that play out in the bowl games... complete and utter garbage...
 
take Cincy if you dare... VT is a program that is built to play competitively with all but the very top tier programs... this is a mismatch!

Pike played poorly against Hawaii in a meaningless game, but before that he'd really been playing well. 63% completions. 18 td's and 7 ints is hardly what I'd call horrible. Taylor and Glennon are a combined 58% 5 tds and 11 picks. The Pitt win was better than the final score looked and they gave up two late scores and an onside kick to go to OT with a still decent West Virginia team. I guess Cincy should fear the big 3 point win at home vs Virginia by Tech, or the 11 point win against Duke-again at home, or the 10 point win over Maryland at home. Maybe they should fear the dominating 14 oint win over Western Kentucky. Anyone who says this is a mismatch is a lunatic. This should be a close 24-20 type of game.

You guys will eventually learn to cap a game not based solely on numbers. I'd say recent play is a better indicator. In case you didnt watch Taylor has played extremely well lately and he only struggled when he was splitting time and not getting in a rhythm. I agree Cincy is a good team and it might very well be a great game, but dont jump to conclusions without really studying a team, it only makes you look bad

I don't know what recent games you are looking at but 3 games ago Taylor was so bad against Duke that he was yanked for the rest of the game at halftime. He had 2 interceptions and 2 lost fumbles and 15 yards passing in that half he played. He was mediocre at best in a close 17-14 win over Virginia in the next game and played decently (11 of 19 84 yards passing 1 int  11 rushes 30 yards 2 TD's rushing) in the final game against Boston College. Granted he's not expected to throw much and is a run first type of QB, but he's certainly not good enough at this point to consider him solid, where Pike has run his offense more efficiently, even just comparing the last 4 or 5 games. I'll give you that he played well against Boston College, but acting like I haven't considered recent play or whatever and am making blind conclusions seems a little unfair. Like I said, should be a close game, but I give the edge to the team that can throw it when they need to.

I will say this and you can take this for what is worth, but 90% of the ACC teams beat the Any Big East Teams on any given night. The Big East is a soft division period. BOL with your Cincy play for me Va Tech will be supported by my money and my cheers.

who knows what will happen in this game but you have got to see cincy coming out pumped for their first bcs game and relevent bowl game ever. maybe that will play into va techs hand.

I would like to start with thanking BullDawg for the picture...you have no idea how much i appreciate it...and kudos as well to trance...there are just some chests--er things i mean that brighten your day...oh yeah there is a football game we are discussing...a bowl game...a BCS game?? are you kidding me? This game is why the BCS sucks.  VaTech just aint that good and this game is not at home on Thursday night like they the Hokies enjoy.  Make no mistake about it though, Cinncinnati is no joke.  I agree with Vinny, expect a close defensive game.  But most importantly, who cares?? These teams should be in the Insight.com bowl and should play at 6 in the morning....even then I might rather catch the news and weather...Pick VT teased to +7.5 but dont count out Pike and Cinncinnati...close game 21-17(THESE TEAMS DO NOT DESERVE THE BCS DAMNIT.)Dont know if I mentioned that i feel this game is a pathetic BCS match.  Close game but should be played in much smaller venue.

Great defenses here. (i mean for the acc and big east). horrible offenses.  Beamer ball comes into play here I think.... i dont see a whole lot of scoring here. take the under

Oh really.

Has the ACC even won a BCS bowl yet?  The ACC is the worst conference in the country...hands down.

VT sucks.  I hope you guys pound the shit out of VT.  UC is solid and will win this game by double digits.

you are missing the fact that the ACC is go awful and has been for years....and even though the Big East is down this year.......its an awful bet...that's what you are missing
