Clemson Louisville....and a few thoughts

early in the season but this has POST OF THE YEAR written all over it

thanks for the thread Boom, I'm leaning Louisville because the spot, Clemson obviously is the better team but Lamar is adding new skills, he's so dynamic, easily the Heisman favorite again, should be a great game to watch, if Clemson wins this game then I'll be very impressed, Louisville makes alot of mistakes with penalties and just bad timed miscues, that could be the difference, I lean Louisville but most likely will just watch as a fan

As for Lamar, he's a freak but there's another ridiculous QB out West named Sam Darnold.  His performance against a really good Stanford team was Heisman worthy, to say nothing of his cross town rival Mr. Rosen who did something against A&M two weeks ago we won't see from another QB all year, Lamar included.  Jalen's a year older and better ... Jake Browning is no slouch .... Stidham - yes he can make the throws but Clemson did expose one true weakness - slow foot speed - still, he will find a spot on an NFL roster; the kid at Oklahoma State ... Baker Freaking Mayfield.... Trace McSorley .... 2017 is year of the QB like we may not see again for decades ... Let's remember and enjoy it!  

Hard for anyone to argue that Clemson isn't deserving of a top ranking, or "the" top ranking based off of last years performance, and by what they have returning this season, and the amount of talent, and depth that Dabo has put together... But the one thing I will admit to, is that you can't hang your hat on them being deserving, based on the victory over Auburn, because I'm telling you, Auburn is in disarray.. Malzahn is not the man for the job at Auburn... The Auburn faithful, that was once a strong foundation of support for him, is rapidly crumbling around him... Did you hear his weekly press conference? It's not the type of address that you would expect to hear from a coach who is 5 years in to his job...same old reasons, same old excuses... new offensive coordinator, new quarterback, new guys up front, lack of execution, missed assignments... Those excuses work within the first two to three years...but not five years in... Look at how many starting quarterbacks and coordinators Bama has had within the last few seasons... Malzahn's inability to recruit and mold a quarterback that fits his style of offense is another inexcusable flaw.... Stidham isn't the answer... Its like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole..it just isn't going to fit... If Malzahn can't run the ball, he is like a deer in headlights... and contrary to what he and Chip says about who was calling the plays... you and I could clearly see Auburn resorting back to the same old plays from over the last few years...you could even see him on TV, if you can read lips, telling Chip what to call.. So Chip requested this week to be moved up to the booth during games....some say so he can see the defense better...some say to get away from Gus.  The game with Clemson, although only a one possession game, was never really that close.. Dabo called the most conservative second half of his career in the second half, because he knew Auburn couldn't find the endzone if they played for a solid week... Auburn will lose several more games this season, and Gus will be on the bus at the end of the season...

I'm glad to see you posting, and I hope we can put our past aside.. Best of luck to you this season

Finally, regarding Gus - he deserves serious criticism for the offense AU fielded against Clemson, which he is getting.  And I'm sure you're right that some of his support is bailing.  But the thing about Gus is, he's smart.  He'll figure it out and make the some of the changes he should have made re: the short passing game to get the ball out of Stidham's hands quicker.  Stidham *is* a great passing QB - he can make all the throws and reads defenses well.  His weakness is foot speed - he's slower than my grandma and she's no longer with us.  Gus is smart - he'll put Stidham in better situations against - lets face it - all the defenses AU faces less capable than Clemson - AU wins 9 games this year; 10 depending on bowl opponent. That defense is for real. Gus keeps his job, my .02 cents fwiw. 

I am convinced some people don't even watch the games they discuss. Lamar did it by himself vs UNC? Malik Williams rushed for 149 yards on 13 carries

watched the entire game bud and Jackson is the entire offense  no   one can deny that.

Clemson's defense really impressed me vs Auburn, they look extremely athletic, really fast to the ball. I think they are going to do well containing Jackson. Bottom line if Louisville plays like they did vs Purdue and North Carolina they are going to lose this game.
