I know I really shouldn't even respond to this.....Lord knows I don't need to...
But im gonna slow this down and explain it to you the best I know how....
1. Clemson is not a top 5 defense... They're #1. I told someone in here before the season...maybe doubleup4life... that clemson would have not only the best DL in the country.... maybe the best we've seen in the modern area of college football...
2. Stidham is and WILL be a 1st round draft pick when he decides to come out... He is very talented and can make any throw on the field.
3. South Carolina couldn't beat Clemson if we let them play with 14 guys on offense and defense... So stop it with that nonsense.
Look...I know you're salty about Clemson.... I remember reading your crazy Alabama thoughts the last 2 years when we played for the National Championship.... You're upset Clemson carved that defense up 2 years in a row... I get that.
But stop it already..
early in the season but this has POST OF THE YEAR written all over it
thanks for the thread Boom, I'm leaning Louisville because the spot, Clemson obviously is the better team but Lamar is adding new skills, he's so dynamic, easily the Heisman favorite again, should be a great game to watch, if Clemson wins this game then I'll be very impressed, Louisville makes alot of mistakes with penalties and just bad timed miscues, that could be the difference, I lean Louisville but most likely will just watch as a fan

Don't disagree at all.... this could go either way.
I think most don't understand the importance of playing games on the road and what time they're played... I know you do, I just pointing that out.
This spot is horrible for Clemson. They're walking into a hornets nest.
But some in here think that giving up 30 points to Louisville at Louisville on gameday at night with a freak of talent like that means you're not a great team..... far from the truth.
Here are the truths about this game...
don't forget this....
Lamar will get his.... it's what great players do...especially at home. Clemson nor Alabama could stop it in that environment.
Clemson WILL score points.... They WILL play keep away. Clemson is gonna run it right down their throats.
Clemson's DL is HARASS him ALL NIGHT... IT WILL HAPPEN.
GL Wahoo...............
ps. can't believe don't see how good this Stidham kid is...

touché sir.... my counterpoint was counter-pointed lol
im simply trying to state that big expectations have a history of letdown at Clemson.... no matter the talent.... it wasnt until Watson showed up that they started fulfilling their potential... and I havent seen this Bryant kid tested on the road so im takin the Cards. BOL to you sir
what year or years you living in dude? 1998? 2003?
Clemson has been great....
another fun fact since they dont " live up to expectations "
Clemson is the only team ONLY team... to finish the season ranked HIGHER than there pre season ranking the last 6 years
this is like a NBC commercial..... " the more you know "...

Clemson will win this game. I am with Boom...Clemson may lose a game or two this season, but it won't be in week 3...The Louisville backers seem to be delusional over Louisville...It did indeed take a Herculean effort by Jackson to beat hapless North Carolina and by only 10..Venables will scheme the D to reasonably contain Jackson...the Clemson O will do just enough to win!

"Clemsoning" Bro I didnt make that up.... it became part of College vernacular for a reason.... idgaf what the polls say.... simlle fact is if you take Watson years out, Clemson only recent Acc title was 2011 when they lost to georgia tech on the road and national title hopes were ruined.... I follow Clemson dude.... i picked em to cover in 2015 and to win in 2016..... dont meed you to remind me about recruiting and coaching.... They didnt really do ANYTHING with all that coaching and talent before Watson besides 1 acc championship in 2011..... so no... im not living in '98..... you seem to forget their entire history before the last 3 years tho

But Im not arguing man.... im jus not sure where all this confidence in this young QB comes from.... Watsonis the reason for their recent success... Trying to move on from a QB like that and maintain success is the biggest challenge a program can face... Thats why Saban is so great....I like Dabo but this year and this game will say more about his QB and team and defense than any polls or recruiting ranks

I don't know, I like Clemson here. Yes I get that it is a terrible spot after a bruising slugfest against a really good Auburn team, on the road, at night, on TV against a monster QB. But Clemson is a *lot* better in the trenches on both sides, better everywhere really except QB. I like the Tigers to find a way to get it done.
As for Lamar, he's a freak but there's another ridiculous QB out West named Sam Darnold. His performance against a really good Stanford team was Heisman worthy, to say nothing of his cross town rival Mr. Rosen who did something against A&M two weeks ago we won't see from another QB all year, Lamar included. Jalen's a year older and better ... Jake Browning is no slouch .... Stidham - yes he can make the throws but Clemson did expose one true weakness - slow foot speed - still, he will find a spot on an NFL roster; the kid at Oklahoma State ... Baker Freaking Mayfield.... Trace McSorley .... 2017 is year of the QB like we may not see again for decades ... Let's remember and enjoy it!

Hard for anyone to argue that Clemson isn't deserving of a top ranking, or "the" top ranking based off of last years performance, and by what they have returning this season, and the amount of talent, and depth that Dabo has put together... But the one thing I will admit to, is that you can't hang your hat on them being deserving, based on the victory over Auburn, because I'm telling you, Auburn is in disarray.. Malzahn is not the man for the job at Auburn... The Auburn faithful, that was once a strong foundation of support for him, is rapidly crumbling around him... Did you hear his weekly press conference? It's not the type of address that you would expect to hear from a coach who is 5 years in to his job...same old reasons, same old excuses... new offensive coordinator, new quarterback, new guys up front, lack of execution, missed assignments... Those excuses work within the first two to three years...but not five years in... Look at how many starting quarterbacks and coordinators Bama has had within the last few seasons... Malzahn's inability to recruit and mold a quarterback that fits his style of offense is another inexcusable flaw.... Stidham isn't the answer... Its like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole..it just isn't going to fit... If Malzahn can't run the ball, he is like a deer in headlights... and contrary to what he and Chip says about who was calling the plays... you and I could clearly see Auburn resorting back to the same old plays from over the last few years...you could even see him on TV, if you can read lips, telling Chip what to call.. So Chip requested this week to be moved up to the booth during games....some say so he can see the defense better...some say to get away from Gus. The game with Clemson, although only a one possession game, was never really that close.. Dabo called the most conservative second half of his career in the second half, because he knew Auburn couldn't find the endzone if they played for a solid week... Auburn will lose several more games this season, and Gus will be on the bus at the end of the season...
I'm glad to see you posting, and I hope we can put our past aside.. Best of luck to you this season
Here's an over and under for you guys... New SEC coaches in 2018... the number is 4.5 ( I say over )

The game next week between Arkansas and Texas A&M will be a loser leave town match between Bielema and Sumlin... not sure if either can survive actually

Do you have a side on the Arky/aTm game, Tideman? Boom? Aggies have the better personnel overall but their replacement QB is extremely unimpressive. Bielema has a better chance to survive, win or lose, simply because of his ridiculous buy-out which Jeff Long should be fired for negotiating, IMHO....
Finally, regarding Gus - he deserves serious criticism for the offense AU fielded against Clemson, which he is getting. And I'm sure you're right that some of his support is bailing. But the thing about Gus is, he's smart. He'll figure it out and make the some of the changes he should have made re: the short passing game to get the ball out of Stidham's hands quicker. Stidham *is* a great passing QB - he can make all the throws and reads defenses well. His weakness is foot speed - he's slower than my grandma and she's no longer with us. Gus is smart - he'll put Stidham in better situations against - lets face it - all the defenses AU faces less capable than Clemson - AU wins 9 games this year; 10 depending on bowl opponent. That defense is for real. Gus keeps his job, my .02 cents fwiw.
BOL to all week 3 ....

Jackson has been their entire team these first 2 games and essentially escaped with victories over Purdue and the Heels......2 teams that don't even come close to Clemson and we only have to cover -3? Give me that all day long.
I am convinced some people don't even watch the games they discuss. Lamar did it by himself vs UNC? Malik Williams rushed for 149 yards on 13 carries

It doesn't matter what scheme you are in if you do not have the talent. The most important thing in shutting down Jackson is DISCIPLINE . If the linebackers get caught out of position that puts the entire defense in big trouble. Second is Coverage ability or speed. If your corners can play man coverage that enables the safeties to come up into the box. At the very least the strong safety to defend against the read option. If the defense has to double the receivers or play any type of zone Jackson will have a field day against anyone. Having solid cover corners makes it much easier to just have more people to play the read option. Having athletic linebackers also make it easier to defend this type of offense. Much easier written they executed.

I don't know when/how this conversation diverted to who the best QBs are, but isn't there one not mentioned here that has the best road win of the season so far? Baker Mayfield? Dude just carried his team to what most common sense people would say the best win of the year so far.

Clemson's defense really impressed me vs Auburn, they look extremely athletic, really fast to the ball. I think they are going to do well containing Jackson. Bottom line if Louisville plays like they did vs Purdue and North Carolina they are going to lose this game.
