I love the SEC fans who assume every year that b/c there are so many close games in conference play that it automatically means the conference is stronger top to bottom than any other.  I will concede that there are MORE quality teams in the SEC than the Big 10, but that doesn't mean the best teams are necessarily better than the best in other conferences.  Yes, the beatdown of Va tech is a solid win, but the Hokies did not play well vs. anyone early in the year.
Younger, inexperienced teams need several games to gel and gain confidence (OSU might be the best example with all the skill position players they lost to the NFL).
YES, their early schedule was weak, but they improved as the games got tougher which shows quality coaching.
 
I think this will be a great game and will not bet it, as I am a Buckeye, but I am anxious to see how the early bowl games go to get a better guage on the strength of each conference.
 
I agree that the SEC is the best conference top to bottom, but we'll see how much better as the bowling gets rolling....

Dennis Dixon, nothing wrong with talking a little trash as long as its kept along the lines of the actual teams and games. I try to stay away from the idiots and ignore them but as you know its diffulcult. OSU in my opinion is a good but not great team and the same goes for LSU and I'm a huge LSU backer. I think whoever turns the ball over and makes the stupid penalties loseds this game and penalties has been a problem for LSU all year long. As I said above I think the defense you will see for LSU will in no way resemble the defense they put on the field the last 4 or so weeks. Getting healthy is huge for LSU and I think you'll see a big game from Dorsey. OSU's QB in my opinion will need to settle down and do it quickly. Im hopin for a good, clean football game with the end result coming in the 4th quarter. Good luck to you and OSU.

I agree with you whole heartedly. Which ever team wins the turnover battle will be huge and probably will determine the winner.

I don't see a blow out either. Think should be good lower scoring game.  If for some reason OSU does get blownout though, would set back OSU and the Big 10 for many years to come...

If by chance OSU is blown out it will be a nightmare for the program/conference. They won't get the benefit of the doubt in future years if there are say 3 unbeaten teams and the big 10 is one of them.
 
If a blowout occurs the big 10 = big East.
 
Now, that might not matter as Ohio St has a home and home with USC, Miami of Fla and Va Tech for the next 6 years. Don't say they don't schedule anyone! Win vs these teams and your conference and it would be almost impossilble to keep them out of the BCS title game.

You guys drank the Koolaid again....Big Ten has ESPN or History or the Rose Bowl...get a grip. LSU is gonna kill Ohio State.

The reason LSU looked bad against SEC teams is because its a brutal league. OSU isn't going to win the line of scrimmage.

Hester doesn't even play like a tailback.  When was the last time, if ever, you saw him put a move on someone?  He only runs straight.

He doesn't have to put moves on anyone, he just runs you right over, just ask the db from Tennessee on the first play from scrimmage. If you think he is not fast just ask the db from Alabama which Hester ran him down from behind. Oh and one more thing he doesn't fumble.

Not a racist at all, just a realist. Beanie does everything Hester does but better (except for fumbling) He is bigger, stronger and faster.  I hope they try to pound him, period. He is a prototypical Big 10 running back. Not even close to the type of back that Mendenhall is who is the ONLY back to run on this defense all year.

I know LSU has other backs they play. I just hope Miles goes to Hester early and often as I think he trusts Hester and has a comfort lever for reasons petelapot mentioned.

Les Miles has some serious motivation for this game..this game determines his salary for the remainder of his contract
 
This is a excerpt from the article on rivals.com about Les Miles new contract extension:
 

"If LSU wins, the contract provides Miles must become among the nation's top-earning college football coaches, no less than the third highest paid. University officials estimate that would put his annual earnings between $3.2 million and $3.5 million - but that could grow depending on contract negotiations with other coaches.

Should Ohio State win the game, Miles contract would increase to at least $2.8 million annually based on LSU's SEC championship this year."

 

That is a 700,000$ difference..maybe more.  Just something to consider

Why do you say that? ESPN has ripped OSU all year.

Also why is LSU going to kill Ohio St? Because LSU killed USC, Old Miss, Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, Arkansas and Tennessee? Notice I didn't include Florida as that is the only team from LSU's close games that is heads and shoulders better than Penn St, Michigan, Ill and Wisconsin. Go try winning at PSU at night. It is not easy and they made that look easy. Oh and don't give me Va Tech. Va Tech was a mess early in the year.

Not to be a jerk but if a max increase of 20% of a salary is extra motivation to win a national championship vs your arch rivals from your playing days then frankly he shoudlbe fired. I don't think he is thinking, you know what, I will watch one more hour of films because this game is worth $700K. I think playing for the NC is motivaiton enough and I don't think this has any bearing in handicapping this game.

I get what you are saying, kinda like how we see players like Adrian Beltre hit 50 hr during their contract years because playing the Brewers in August is a lot easier knowing you are playing for your next contract but in this situation I highly doubt it matters.

Anyone watch that cheap shot on Glen Dorsey? I looked very serious. Also anyone notice that his production fell off the charts afterwords and not only that, is plays per game declined after every game since that not counting overtimes?
 
I know the month will help but when you are scared to death over losing millions it is hard to come back after a close call like that. I think that injury might have been worse then what LSU lead on or at least worse in Dorsey's eyes. If anyone can comeback after an injury like that it is Dorsey who is an animal but $30 million dollars in guarenteed money at risk might be in the back of his mind.

Hey Gabby, great thread still going here with a few exceptions. You will get your wish, Miles will go to Hester often and early because Miles is loyal to guys like Hester. He is a mule and a awesome blocker who gives 110% every play. He is a 4 year guy who has earned his keep. Problem is Miles stays with him a little to long in my opinion, but if Hester has success then that really opens other avenues for the 3 high School all americans on the bench. Keiland Williams, Charles Scott and Richard Murphy bring alot to the table and all are different types of backs.
 
On the Dorsey issue. What bothered me most of all was the line judge was looking right at the play and didn't throw a flag. That should have been a dis qualifacation no questions asked. One of the most blatant cheap shots I've ever seen. The knee is not what the big concern is at the moment, it's his back and back spasms. I can tell you that he is doing 100% better and feeling good with plenty of more time to rest. I know a few guys who know him and trust me, this is the reason he came back for his senior season, to win the NCG. Yes money is very important but I also found out that the insurance policy he has is outragous. He will be 100% ready to go on Jan 7th and will give it everything he has. I've seen this guy disrupt many good offensive lines and this will be no different as OSU is good up front.
 
Anyone that thinks LSU will kill OSU is crazy.
 
Also anyone whjo thinks Miles is motivated because of money in this game is also crazy. He has money already and will continu to make money. Winning the National Championship is what motivates coaches. Man I can't wait to hit Bourbon Street and get in the mix with the OSU fans.

You just said it yourself..players and coaches perform at higher levels in there contract years.  If you were offered 700,000$ more a year at your job to win a game would that not motivate you a little more.  700,000$ is a lot of money even to these coaches who make big dollars.  Not saying im betting LSU beacuse of this..but i do think it should be considered.
