Actually, I think Phil captured it pretty well.  Vandy should really struggle to score, and hits the road against a team that ought to be in the middle of the, consdierably improved, MAC race.  For what it's worth, Ilike the under more than I like a side, but certainly believe the right team is favored.

NO. Don't listen to the hype.  SEC vs. MAC?   Give me the SEC, especially catching points.

I've already locked in Vanderbilt + the points, but I suspect that this could be yet another game where I get farked by a MAC team.

I try not to bet on any games involving MAC teams, but it's just so damn hard...

I looked and looked for any reason to NOT take Miami and couldn't find one.  Vandy lost all 5 starters on the O Line and most of their front 7 on D.  Game means a lot more to Miami, and Vandy knows it has S Carolina the following Thurs at home.

The conference discrepancy is so obvious here that vegas signals somethings amiss with vandy as dog in mac country.

Last years game was a lackluster effort by Vandy. They won 24-13 despite five turnovers. Check the box score...they played three QBs, a DB who had never started a game. They just didn't seem to get anything going that night.                                        
 
People forget that last years game was sandwiched between beating then No. 6 South Carolina in Columbia and Florida..... tough spot  
 
QB-----Vanderbilt has named Chris Nickson the starting QB. He started as a soph and jr 18 straight games then tweeked a hamstring the opener last year. The injured hammy kept him from running with authority and the coaching staff yanked him for a pocket passer with limited running ability. Now hes is back, healthy and is a senior who has been runing the same offense for 4 years--He was Jay Cutler's backup as a freshman. His signature win was on the road against Georgia two years ago. Adequate passer and runs the option in his sleep.
 
At running back they are solid without being spectacular. There is a wild card.....Sr Jeff Jennings was a co-starter during his soph  year then had knee surgery.  He should get most of the carries during his senior year. Jared Hawkins will get his fair share of touches..this kid always seems to have one or two jailbreaks every game. Last year he made speacial plays against SEC defenses in limited action.
 
Much has been made about the offensive line losing five starters. The replacements--three redshirt junior and two redshirt sophs have been in the system and have game experience against the SEC. Obviously starting is different than spot duty.
 
The defensive backfield includes two all-sec players in Rashard Langford and DJ Moore-you will probably see Moore on offense a few times as well. Solid at FS,SS and Nickel with Hamiton, Myron Lewis and Dalron Speed. With a talented group, expect to see some man coverage against Miami.
 
Defensive line is a question mark although they appear to have some depth. I'm not sure that any one of the 5-6 players that will rotate here has separated himself from the others.
 
LB position is interesting. Vandy traditionally has strong MLBs
(ie Shelton Qaurles, Chris Gaines, Jamie Winborne, Hunter Hillenmier (sp?)--all NFLers). The next in line is redshirt freshman Chris Marve. Somewhat of a physical freak.

It is good to see Vandy homers on this board.  They have a good coach and play the college game the way it should with lots of redshirts and upper class men starters.

Vandy loss their best two players to the draft last year via chris williams and earl bennett. They got a bad call last year in Nashville to get the win over miami(ohio). They were clearly out played.  This is a revenge game for ohio and they have 3 linebackers that are on the butkus award watch list (first school ever with three). Vandy has still not named their starting quarterback for the season between chris nickson or mckenzie adams. Living in Nashville I go to every Vandy home game and my money is on Miami (ohio)...

I am unfamiliar with  the 11 point scoring play  that allows another team to win. If you live in Nashville, you should try reading the local sports page. Chris Nickson is the starting QB Thursday night.

2007 box score from the game in which Vandy was clearly outplayed.  Turnovers is the only reas this game was not a 4 TD win.

Vandy has the better coach, has the better QB, has won in far tougher venues and recruits better players than Miami (O) -- slightly, better, but better.  I think that MAC is improved in 2008 -- lots of returning starters, and that Vandy will have a tough year in the SEC, but this will be one of Vandy's wins.  FWIW, I agree that the under is the better play than the side.

HEY DOREJAM,

Its clear that you rely on other people's information to form your own. Their is a good reason why Vandy an SEC east team is a underdog. Being the stat queen that you are you should read between the lines sometimes. Vandy has no offense and a very lowsy defense this year and are a 3 to 4 win team at best. Vandy is 0-8 (ATS) in road openers the last 14 years. As of yesterday Bobby johnson had not named a starter at QB. So go get your shine box Jr. Vandy is overmatched in this game and they will show why they do not belong in the SEC.

They just played at Michigan two years ago and lost by 20.  The line was like 27-28.
