I have no problem with that at all GH. Afterall, you are an accountant. The problem is that your a Bama fan, and I don't know how Choi would feel about that.
I thought of Boom Boom because he's a well respected poster on Covers and is a Clemson fan, so I think he would be about as neutral as anyone.
I certainly would be willing to pay the 3rd party a fee to make it worth his while as well, so long as the fee is subject to the check clearing.

Even before I read your post, I asked my attorney about using his escrow account, and he said that would be fine except that he said that there would be paperwork that would have to be filled out, and that he would have to report the transaction to the IRS. That sounds a little messy to me and he agreed. He also said that just having a neutral third party hold the checks is simpler if this is just a one-time deal, even though it's not really verifiable that way. One way to verify could be to show a bank statement showing the funds.
I also don't have a problem with the ML bet. A +6.5 ML bet is equivalent to +220, which is much better than you can get at a book who are paying +170. So in this case your $2,500 would pay $5,500.
I sent you a friend request so that we can work out the details off of the message board. If you want someone on the board to serve as a neutral third party, someone like Boom Boom I think would be good. Do you know who he is?
Jimmy, I don't think you really have to consult an attorney to understand the ramification of using escrow with any transaction over a sum of $10K. In any event, I'll make it easy on you, a plane tix to Vegas will run around $500-$700 right now for Jan. 7th. I will be there since it's my b-day and will also be there Superbowl weekend. Get on a plane and bring your boys with you, we'll have a good time and watch the game. When the game end, you will hand me a sum of $$$ all in $100 bills. What do you think of that idea? That way, I get to meet JimmytheFreak and you can meet the real me....$nofear$.

FYI for what it's worth. From Dallas A.M. News Friday 12/18 Article about Greg McElroy ALA QB from Southlake,TX where Chase Daniel also starred
After returning to Tuscaloosa and MVP of SEC Champ Game, McElroy "The funny thing is I've been thinking more about the Florida game than the Texas game, I think out of reflection." McElroy said."That was such a big, emotional game for us. Luckily, we didn't have to play a game the next week because so much time and preparation and focus went into beating Florida."
Hmmm.

Nice find.. Like to add one thing to it... The teams are allowed to practice 16 times before the game.. Saban decided to give the players 2 weeks off straight instead of practicing and stopping again...They start practice tomorrow the 19th and will practice all the way up to the game with a break from the 23td to the 27th for Christmas..So, Bama has not focused on Texas as a team, in a practice setting, so I can see where he comes from when he says he has not thought about Texas... Still a comment to make you think about..

Regardless if they are going to play next week or next month, it's a rarity to be able to duplicate that performance again. They should of save that emotional epic performance for the UT game where it count the most,,,oh wait,,,,that was Bama's NC game vs. Florida. Now they must be feeling really good getting that monkey (gators) off their back. It should be smooth sailing now for Bama stepping down to the big 12 (yawn).

I understand the "trap" theory, but I'm not buying it. I really don't see why this line isn't 10. Sure, Alabama tends to plod along offensively, and they're coming off a HUGE win, yada yada.
I can't get over the fact that Texas romped in a weak-ass Big 12 conference. They took care of business, which is not an easy task, "down" conference or not. They've got chemistry and experience- evidenced by the fact that they never let up against the cupcakes.
As far as the good teams they faced, they didn't cover a single one of them. And there were about 3.
Texas did not have a rusher anywhere near the top of Big 12 standings. Not in Rushing Yards, Yards per Rush, or Rush Attempts. How hard will that be to defend? Answer: not at all. So Colt McCoy will pass at will on Bammy's defense? Nope.
I'll take the superior rushing team, superior defense, and superior coach.

KSU, you point out the glaring problem for TX. They can't run ball consistently, therefore, they'll focus on McCoy. His only consistent target is Shipley. Take that away and Texas is screwed. But Texas really has many intangibles in their favor which is why Choi initiated this thread. For Texas to win, they need to OUTCOACH Bama because of the physical mismatch. Can that happen? Anything can!! Defense wins championships and TEXAS does have a great one!

Crusher - I hear ya. I'm certainly not saying Mack is a bad coach. He's very good. I don't understand the criticism as far as "he gets tons of talent, why doesn't he show up in more NC games?" It's not easy to run a football maching, no matter the recruiting base. Mack is a great coach.
The QB matchup in this game is absolutely no contest. Colt wins hands down.
But it will be won in the trenches. The problem that UT will have to overcome is the "domino" effect. Huge games have a big time domino effect. If the dam breaks, it tends to break huge. This game could be even-steven for the first half...and boom! Two mistakes late and Bammy is up by double digits. I think they have the better opportunity to make that happen in this game.
As far as the "boom" factor, I like to look at QB sacks. Texas was middle of the road in the Big 12 in allowing sacks, with no ominous sacking defenses. Bama fared MUCH better in a tougher conf in both giving up sacks and making sacks.
Special teams factor in big as well...looking at the punting game, Texas is a horrible punting team (#11 in the Big 12 when punting away) while Bammy is VERY good at returing punts (#2 in the SEC at 15.8 per return). The punting game will be big in this game with tons of defensive stops on both sides (so it would seem!).
As far as kickoff returns and coverage, Texas wins this category hands down...but how many touchdowns will be scored, resulting in kickoffs? How much padding did the Horns get from blowouts when the other team gave up and didn't cover kicks that well?

Jimmy, I don't think you really have to consult an attorney to understand the ramification of using escrow with any transaction over a sum of $10K. In any event, I'll make it easy on you, a plane tix to Vegas will run around $500-$700 right now for Jan. 7th. I will be there since it's my b-day and will also be there Superbowl weekend. Get on a plane and bring your boys with you, we'll have a good time and watch the game. When the game end, you will hand me a sum of $$$ all in $100 bills. What do you think of that idea? Don't get me wrong Choi, the prospect of meeting you eyeball to eyeball is tempting, but unfortunately I will be visiting my son in Virginia that week.
Choi, I called my attorney because, as most attorney do, he already has an escrow account. Also, there would be no possibility of him messing with the money because, as an attorney, he would go to jail if he did. As I said, I investigated this option, and it just appears to be more trouble than it's worth.
I still think a neutral third party holding checks is the simplest way to handle it. There really is no danger in the third party messing with the checks because they will be made out to us.
Gamehenger has offered to be the third party. I don't have a problem with that. How bout you?

How many UT BCS bowls have you cashed? My point is, if you played every UT BCS bowls, you will be 100% correct.
Should read BCS bowls under Mack Brown.
Do you really want to go there? Really? You sure?
Mack Brown is 1-2 ATS in BCS games. That's not doing too much cashing in.
I've read through your thread and have seen very little substance to back up your big talk. Speed kills and Bama simply has more of it than Texas. The Tide also has better line play than the Horns. On both sides of the ball.
27-17 Alabama.

Vince Young is going to appear from the ether and win the day...
I was as gung ho on Texas one time: NC game with UT getting pionts becuz nobody beats Vince Young in this spot. End of story. Cashed big. This is not the same deal. Far from it.

Cart McBoy and the one dimensional Horn attack against a well balanced BAMA team? Hmmmm.....
Although I can see Choi's contrarian angle, this game is still in the air and a small lean toward the Tides in this onet.
Oh yeah, that UT defense is way overrated. (And I'm not just judging them solely by the Big 12 CG either.) DE Sergio Kindle is pretty much the only real possible disruptive force on that D. Not enough playmakers on this defense and they'll need to win the TO battle to have a real good shot at this game. Colt better bring his A game or the Tides will just pin their ears back and come at him all day like that one man arm Suh did.
Lightning likely not striking twice. GL
