Don't overvalue Tulane's performance against Navy.
Tulane has played not one, not two, but THREE triple option teams this year, giving them a blueprint for each succeeding game.
They got destroyed by Georgia Tech. They used that game to prep themselves for Navy and still lost handily but limited Navy's rushing attack, to their credit (Navy still put put up 30+ on them despite that).
Then having played two far better triple option teams in Navy and GT, they prevailed against Army, AT THE GUN.
Mind you, Army had FIVE fumbles, an Int and a completely blown punt which set up numerous Tulane scores (and no, the D does not get credit for all that as Army cannot hold onto the ball. They lead the nation in fumbles, lost or recovered with 34 and when you watch them, many are unforced).
SMU is a whole different animal. Tulane will score on their D but I promise you SMU will score as well and if you want to have a shootout with them, watch out because they will drop 40+ on you. And Tulane won't keep up with a spread like this, a mere FG.
Now Tulane has dropped 40+ on the worst team in the FBS and that is it. To even recognize the FCS win over Maine is a joke. Al this beefed up atrocious offensive stats, total gimme games. In their other games outside of Army UCF and Maine, they were destroyed.
Don't compare SMU and Tulane and how they did agaisnt Navy as in the end Navy won both games handily (SMU will get gashed by the run and luckily Tulane is 125th in the FBS in rushing yards....excellent), compare how they both did agaisnt Temple.
40-45 with under two minutes left for SMU against a very stout D vs. Tulane which got obliterated 49-10 and wasn't in the game for more than 6 or 8 minutes.
Now that is an apt comparison against a what was very recently a ranked team.
And Tulane also has a D line that can't compare with Temple. And they will also get gashed.
