One more thing to add... MSU AD says that no evidence against another school was found or turned in.  So that leads to one to assume that Joe Schad and ESPN have been using the very shady Kenny Rogers as their source.

LINK

“MSU alerted the Southeastern Conference about the offer. MSU did not have any specific incriminating information about any other school, and thus could not provide any."

Uh, I hate to break the news to you, but Cecil himself admitted tonight that he asked MSU for money but that they would not pay it.

I have seen nothing to indicate that Cam is not playing tomorrow. About 40 minutes ago a player tweeted he thought Cam was going to have a season best game tomorrow. Considering Auburn would run a different offense with the backup QB I am pretty sure the players would know.

I'm not sure what got my post zapped so I'll tread carefully.

The info did not come from a Bama message board, although I do know that at least two post.

Let me say I'm very involved in athletics in this state and know a few people.  I am not an Auburn hater, and know a few people at that school as well.  I cannot say how I know this particular Auburn person other than to say we have work together on occasion.

I think if you look again you will see that yet another fame seeking reporter, quoted yet another unnamed source from MSU. I wonder who that was...

Correct.  That admission by Cecil Newton is a NCAA violation in and of itself, and would likely make him ineligible even if Cam and Auburn knew nothing about it.  The fact of the matter is they know now, and if they play him with that knowledge, their football program will pay a very heavy price in the future.  I can't see Auburn pushing this any farther.

Reporters are completely inconsequential to the inquiry.

ccbulldog here is a link to the story you were talking about so you can see it first hand.  This is really the same ole "news" we have been hearing for awhile.  Nothing new about it.

A source close to the situation exclusively told Channel 2 Action News investigative reporter Mark Winne that the player's father, Cecil Newton, has admitted having conversations with an ex-Mississippi State University player

I have seen nothing official though that says Cecil said these things.  Also the decision to play someone is not up to Gene Chizik.  It is up to Mr. Rich McGlynn and that guy is a heavy handed a Compliance director as it comes. If there were any question about Cam's status then he would not be playing tomorrow. And according to reports as late as 11pm he is playing.

"The solicitation of cash or benefits by a prospective student-athlete or another individual on his or her behalf is not allowed under NCAA rules."

Again I have seen nothing that says that happened.  Also that rule must have more meat to it.  Why did Albert Means get to play at Memphis after he left Alabama?

It doesn't matter whether he did or didn't.  Others have said he did and that is enough to call Cam Newton's eligibility into question.

There are a mountain of questions regarding Newton's status, and if McGlynn or whoever decides to roll the dice and play him under these clouds of suspicion when the NCAA has told them not to, then can pretty much kiss their football program goodbye for the next decade.  I refuse to believe that Auburn is that stupid.

Aside from Cecil Newton himself saying it, there are a minimum of 4 other people saying it as well.  That's pretty much a stone cold lock.

Oh well we will find out tomorrow. But he was under suspicion last week too.  In fact this was first reported in Jan.  So far I have seen nothing that says the NCAA has told Auburn not to play Cam.  I have also seen nothing that says Cecil admitted to shopping Cam.  I wonder though.. would the FBI care if Cecil asked for money?  Probably not.  So what is the real story?  I will leave you with this from former NFL and UT guy, Stephen White:

"Ask yourself this question: who is the only person according to all the reporting who directly asked Miss State officials for $?
There seems to be 1 hustler here and a bunch of innuendo. But because the focus is on Cam/Cecil it appears the hustler is getting a pass
Same hustler that impersonated a NFLPA employee to fool players. Same huslter who would know who to shake down at Miss St cuz he went there
And man is that one HELL of a coincidence that the only school that was apparently shaken down was the ome the hustler had ties to.

I have one last thought for you on this. Lets take Kenny Rogers story as the gospel. That would mean Rogers was minding his own business
When Cecil Newton asked, nay COMMANDED that he solicit Miss St for $ in order to sign his son even though they didnt really know each other.
And I say commanded because again Rogers said he was doing this for free. And so instead of thinking of any personal ramifications or
any violations your school might be committing by paying the $ if you're Rogers you just shrug it off and get to soliciting.

Now lets Remember one other important detail. Supposedly Rogers' company "matches high school players with colleges" BUT this is his first time
Soliciting $ for a kid. But out of the kindness of your heart you decide to break the law and NCAA rules to help Cecil Newton because...
Well when you come up with a viable reason why any rational person would do this for someone they hardly know for free then Ill believe it.
Ask yourself 1 other question. Why is the media doing its best to give Rogers credibility? Maybe to justify their own reporting? Right now its definitely in a few journos best interest for the story to be true or for ppl to at least believe it. If not.."

Being accused of saying it, and actually saying it is two different things.  Lets remember that the accusations have changed so much that it is reasonable to think the NCAA will dismiss the word of boosters from a rival school that keeps changing their story.

1. Kenny Rogers contacted John Bond directly on behalf of Cecil Newton.

2. Kenny Rogers contacted John Bond through 2 other people on behalf or Cecil Newton.

3. Cecil Newton talked by phone directly to an MSU recruiter.

4. Cecil Newton talked to two MSU coaches in person with Kenny Rogers present.

Jimmydagreek is an honest guy and has been providing great info to this forum for awhile. I trust what he says. I was lucky enough to jump on Georgia +10 from my local when the line first came out early in the week before all the mess that has gone down since. I will not be surprised at all if Cam doesnt play and even if Auburn disregards the advice of the NCAA (which is basically a death penalty if they do and he is found ineligible) and play him I still think Georgia covers because he will be todistracted with everything.

If not.."

First of all, the people with the least credibility in this entire affair is Cam and Cecil Newton.

Futhermore, I count no less than 7 people who have confirmed the pay for play scheme.

1.  Cecil Newton himself.

"WSB in Atlanta investigative reporter Mark Winne quoted a source close to Cecil Newton, Cam Newton's father, saying he has admitted having conversations with an ex-Mississippi State player about the possibility of a payoff if Cam Newton signed with Mississippi State last December."

2.  Dan Mullen

3 & 4.  Two other Mississippi State coaches.

5.  Kenny Rogers

6.  John Bond, and finally

7.  Bill Bell

Now perhaps you can convince yourself this is all coincidental, but I seriously doubt the NCAA will see it that way.

The NCAA does not suspend or clear players until their investigation is finished, and that won't happen for quite a while.  The NCAA will, however, notify a school when they have reason to believe a player's eligility may be in question.  That is what the NCAA has done in this case.  If Auburn ignores the NCAA and plays Newton, then the crucifiction of the Auburn football progrram won't be pretty.

Ask yourself these questions.

1.  Cecil Newton's long battle the the Newnan City Council to stave off demolition of his church is a matter of public record.  It is also a fact that in May of 2010 Cecil Newton renovated the church and brought in compliance with city building codes.  Question:  Where did the money come from?  Cecil Newton has thus far refused to answer that question.  Perhaps he will find the FBI more persuasive.

2.  Why would someone in another state give a large contributuion to a church they've never attended?

3.  If school A offered $180,000, school B offered $200,000, and Newton goes to school C, how much did school C pay?  Zero?

You may try to sugarcoat the issues with stories of reporters with nebulous sources, but none of that has anything to do with the real issues.  If the FBI tracks down these money transactions, and they are proficient at doing just that, Auburn is in HUGE trouble, especially if some of this can be tied to coaches.

I will not be surprised at all if Cam doesnt play and even if Auburn disregards the advice of the NCAA (which is basically a death penalty if they do and he is found ineligible) and play him I still think Georgia covers because he will be todistracted with everything.

I agree.  I like Georgia even if Newton plays.  Georgia matches up very well in that they can score with Auburn.  I think Georgia gets into the 40s in this games and wins straight up . . . Newton or no Newton.

Jimmy is getting a lot of props for his information and possibly rightfully so.

BUT-  He has got one HUGE GLARING ERROR.

Cecil Newton has admitted nothing.  It is according to "a source" that he made those remarks.

A textbook example of "heresay."  Not to say it is not true, but the evidentiary value is greatly diminished.

Yeah I mean if the coach dodges the question and just says "He's eligible" then he's clearly innocent.

Case closed.

Thank you, Judge bosalt.

Exactly. However there are more errors than that I am afraid.  Never mind the fact that the sources are all MSU boosters.  No coach is on record as having said those things either.  The story about the coaches involvement is also reported by Kenny Rogers.  Same guy that has given widely different stories and is currently being investigated for fraud by the NFL for falsely representing players.

Also Cecil had the money to fix his church in Sept 09 and was reported so by a paper in Newnan. Auburn did not begin recruiting Cam until Dec 14th. On top of that Cecil turned in the financial records a long time ago and not once has a reputable person or even unnamed source claimed it showed improprieties.

This is being reported by multiple Auburn websites.  And even though that alone render Newton inelligible pursuant to NCAA rules, Auburn follows this revelation by saying is eligible.

Mark Winnie is a respected reported.  I have a difficult time believing he just made it up, and that his editor would run with if he did.
