Mark Winnie is a respected reported.  I have a difficult time believing he just made it up, and that his editor would run with if he did.

Well not only does Mark Winnie use an unamed source to get his stab at instant fame.  He writes the story so vague that we have no idea what he means. Here could be one possible interpetation of the events:

"Mr. Newton, how much money would you take to get you son to sign a scholarship with my bulldogs?"

"Mr. Rogers, my son won't be treated like a rented mule."

There the conversation took place and Cecil walks away.

If he did it or not, the bigger problem is that our federal government is now involved in college football. The FBI will stop at nothing to find the truth and save the universities their dignity and honor while they make millions in tuition fees and bowl games. The colleges and NCAA should police themselves and allow the FBI to do some real detective work like hunt down terrorist organizations domestic and abroad trying to blow up commercial and commuter flights.  Our government is worried about a 17 year receiving cash to play football and get educated.

I'm not defending the government, but this does fall under the RICO statute and it does cross state lines.

I continue to stick by my sources who say Newton will not play today.  If that happens, that really sucks for you DU4L.  Your Auburn future is pretty much in the bag at this point.

Way to much money involved here. He will play. Your talking upwards of 31 million thats going to be made by the SEC and Auburn in the BCS championship. Then after the season they will do something about it.
