both these teams are motivated, great qb, contrasting styles. The Stanford offensive line is huge and talented. The Cardinal tight
ends range from 6-foot-6 to 6-foot-8, 250 pounds. It’s an offensive
front designed to run first and play-action pass second. Stanford is one of the best teams in the nation at taking care of the
football. The Cardinal have lost six fumbles (No. 8 in the NCAA) and
given up nine interceptions (No. 33 in the NCAA). i certainly see value in Stanford +4, but my gut just won't let me pull the trigger, although I really want to, for me, i feel the better play is the under, even though these two offenses avg over 80 together, i think this bowl game will cause both teams to really value TOP....Stanford controls time of possession. The Cardinal have won time of
possession in 21 of its last 25 games. Coach David Shaw said Stanford
needs to control the clock to keep OSU’s offense on the sidelines. The
Cowboys don’t have to win the clock war, but they do need to have
several drives each half that will allow the defense to catch its breath
on the sidelines. It doesn’t have to be a repeat of the Oklahoma game
in which OSU rushed for more yards than it passed, but OSU’s time of
possession needs to be in the 23 to 28 minute range. OSU quarterback
Brandon Weeden said the Cowboys must eliminate turnovers and get first
downs.
“Don’t stall out, keep our defense off the field and continue to get
first downs and score touchdowns,” Weeden said. “Against an offense like
that (Stanford’s), you can’t kick field goals and win.”
Stanford will do what they do and try to grind it out and keep OSU off the field and conversely, Weeden knows he can't continue to put his defense out on the field with zero rest on the sideline and expect them to stop Stanford. OSU d will probably be good for giving up a yard/clock chewing drive up to Stanford and cash a turnover in the redzone and with a total this high, that could certainly be the difference.
